Re: Thoughts on this cage?
It's too high and not big enough in floor space. Hamsters need more floor space and less height. Falling is dangerous for hamsters. Check other people from USA on here to see the best cages available.

Re: Thoughts on this cage?
Okay thanks! I thought by adding some hammocks I could work around the height issue. 540 square inches is too small? I'm not sure I have the space to accommodate a much larger cage!

Re: Thoughts on this cage?
I'm not sure on the USA minimum cage size and the UK is measured in cm not inches.
540sq inches is above the 360sq inches minimum. Bigger is generally better as there will be more room to fit in more toys etc with space between them.
If you are having a Syrian hamster they need large house, wheel etc. Toys sold for rats especially when full grown are better for Syrians so they don't get stuck in the holes.
Have a look at the cages thread. It will give some good ideas of cage sizes and what fits in them. Erinsanimals you tube channel has good hamster advice and there is a cage size video showing what would fit in various cage sized cages.
Do you want a wire cage like you showed or would a tank or tank style cage be ok. Did cages can be made.

Re: Thoughts on this cage?
UK is 80cm x 50cm for syrians (I reakon 100cm x 50cm is better as they need big wheels and lots of toys, sand tray, etc).
The USA minimum is smaller for some reason.
I think Amazon do some good cages in the usa. Goran springs to mind.

Re: Thoughts on this cage?
I'm in the US too and the easiest thing to do in my opinion is to get a 40 gallon breeder tank or larger. They give enough room for the hamster, and they're easily accessible for us
To give you an idea on measurements, my 40 gallon tank is 3 feet long (36 in) and 18 in wide. Hamsters need a lot more space than our pet shops would lead you to believe! It's very sad really. I was also really surprised, so I'm thankful that I had this forum to teach me other wise. Bernie is in the 40 gallon and I honestly wish I had a bigger tank for him! I also didn't believe I had room for a large enough space, but I did some rearranging to fit his new home in. I'm glad I did. He's a happy hamster, and I actually like how the room is arranged now more than I did before!

Re: Thoughts on this cage?
It is on the small side and tall which makes it hard to set up. The need something wider and lower ideally, as the others have said. It's the floorspace that is important.
The only two cages I know on Amazon that are a suitable size are these and they are both in the $150 dollar region, but are both good cages. Of the two the Marchioro Goran is better as it's a little bit wider and higher but not too tall, so easier to fit more in. You'd be surprised how a lot of space in them disappears once you have a Syrian sized wheel, house and toys in there
A tank, like Jenibelle suggested, might work out a bit cheaper. Or you could make a diy cage if you're good at that sort of thing (which I'm not!)
Amazon.com : Marchioro Goran 82 Cage for Small Animals, 32.25 inches, Beige/Green : Pet Cages : Pet Supplies
Amazon.com : Lixit Animal Care Savic Mickey 2 Mice and Swarf Hamster Cage, X-Large : Birdcages : Pet Supplies
The Savic Mickey 2XL comes with a metal shelf that needs removing (bad for hamsters feet) and the tubes are mouse sized ones so also need taking out if it's for a Syrian (ours got stuck in them), but it does come with a sputnik, water bottle and food bowl. As with all cages, the wheel is too small for a Syrian - you'd need something like a 27cm wodent wheel. The Goran would fit a 12" wheel attached to the bars and the 12" Silent Runner wheel from exotic nutrition, would be good for that cage or a 27cm wodent wheel.

Re: Thoughts on this cage?
Hello, have u considered cages from ikea ?
The ikea deltolf works well it is large and cheaper than other cages. You just follow the instructions flip it on its back and don't install the shelves. A lot of hamster owners use this and it works really well
Or if you wanted something smaller you could use the billy extension with a billy glass shelf which is again cheaper and still rather large.
Hope this helped a little

I totally agree, i can't wait for my detolf. unfortunatly my partner is tight and won't drive to to Bristol for one if you get the oportunity to have one i would they are amazing.
(also i would say the bar spacing is to big on this cage i wouldn't go bigger than 1cm spacing)
