Default Hamster Playpen

I recently bought a hamster playpen for my Syrian Hamster, but she can scale it no problem and is up and over before I've even managed to sit down!

I'm considering giving it to my friend who has two dwarf hamsters, does anyone know if they are suitable for the smaller ones?

They're really good for Russian hams, just so long as you don't put any tall toys close to the bars! Not for Chinese or syrians definitely, both can easily climb out.
For a syrian you'd do better making one out of correx or big pieces of card.

Thanks, that's good to know.

Yes it did say that it was suitable for Syrian's, but like so many other things it just wasn't big enough!

If you have a look on ErinsAnimals youtube channel (link below) she has a DIY out of cardboard boxes, it's much bigger and would be better for your syrian. And also be harder to climb!

This is what I use for Bernie. He isn't able to get out and it's really, VERY large. But it takes a long to come in, and you need to watch to make sure that no chewing business is going on.

Amazon.com : E Support 150cm Foldable Portable Playpen Ball Pit Pool Playground Great for Children Kids Fun Outdoor or Indoor : Baby

I bought the largest size.

You could use wood instead of cardboard. Especially if the hamster is a chewer.

I use one of these puppy pens for my boy Robin, he loves it and the lid zips up so no chance of him being able to climb out. Needs to be supervised but with plenty of toys in there hes never tried to chew it.

If you have space and Charlie is supervised in the playpen, rather than have it all around his cage it could be attached to the ends of the front of his cage (each end of the correct to each corner of his cage). It would increase the space in the playpen a lot giving more toy space

Thanks CMB - I don't always put it round the cage. I've had it in various different places as well as round the cage. When it's round the cage it just means he can pop in and out when he wants. I have a few more pieces to make it bigger too. He likes running round the back of the cage and having a wash, and climbing up the outside of the cage
