Where will you put the hammy until the cage gets there?

Mmm. It could stress him out a bit to have cage change shortly after settling in. Ideally it's best to get the cage set up first and introduce them to it and let them settle in then don't change anything in it or clean for the first couple of weeks. Is he definitely coming on Friday?

I'm sorry, I should have made my post clearer. My hammy will be in their Hamster Heaven Cage for at least two - three months. I'm going to have to save a portion of my money every month to save up for the Marrakesh and yes, I will be going to get him/her on Friday

I would actually suggest waiting to get the hamster instead. It would cause a lot less stress for the hamster instead of just doing something to make yourself happy.Yes,it would be taking more patience, but it is worth it in the end to keep your hamster less stressed out and reduce the risk of illness and stress related negative behavior. There are also some really cheap easy DIY cages you could make if you want to save money, which then you can make a massive cage compared to what you'd be getting.

Ok, thank you for the advice. I guess I'll wait to get my hamster - if that's what's best for them. I feel rather stupid for spending so much money on the cage now though :/

Don't worry!Nobody is perfect when it comes to pet care.I may come off as a walking hamster encyclopedia at times, but really even I have made my own mistakes in hamster care and even with other pets as have the majority of pet owners!

That's true - hamster care is definitely one of those things that is constantly being updated. So much has changed since I had my last hammy

You could get a hamster now and use the cage you have. Or return the cage for a refund/credit note.

If you get a hamster you could do a cage upgrade if needed due to hamster size, behaviour problems or just to give the hamster more space.

It can cause stress, but this can be minimised by putting fresh substrate into the end cage and adding the old substrate on top. Add the old nest and hoards and toys, wheel, bottle without cleaning them.

Some people let their hamster explore the new cage for a little while for a few days. The move them in.

You're being a great owner though by trying to figure things out.If you weren't putting forth that effort,it would change things
