Default Re: Alaska for roborovskis

Two points. pairs of Roborovski usually end up needing split up (read some of the threads in the Roborovski section), so your friend would be wise to only take on one Robo and enjoy Him/Her. The best cage for a robo is a tank style and the Zoozone 1 is an ideal size. The lid only requires meshing if the accessories inside allow for the hamster to reach the wide bars on the grill or if you have other pets like dogs/cats. Robos are better not to have accessories that are too high anyway as they are not climbers.

A little speedy robo only requires a good cage, a good wheel and deep substrate as they love to dig, but most dwarf hamsters do! They don`t require being taken out of their cage as they are very fast and can leap/run off, so for their safety, it`s better to keep the robo well within it`s own habitat and interact inside it. If a barred cage must be used, it would be wise to look at a cage with very narrow bars like the Ferplast Kios or cages with 6/7mm bar spacing. 1cm bar cages are too wide for a robo. x

It might be a better size for a pair.
Agreeing with this, I used to have a pair of Robos, upgraded them to a Ferplast Mary from their zoozone 1 and pretty sure that the increased space contributed to them falling out.

I discovered the hard way that a Robo can apparently jump out of an unmeshed zoozone 1 -- I had one escape more than once from one, and after I reduced his substrate level and took out the wheel (he had a flying saucer and didn't have any tall toys in there), he still managed to escape! I'd always recommend meshing a zoozone after that!
