The only questionable part is that it doesn't say what type of wood it is.

That's true, but it does say it is suitable for birds too, which I assume means it is ok for hamsters too? It does say it is suitable for rodents too ... I think I might email them later and find out

Got mine from Rodipet because at the time they quoted 30cm long size and I didn't want anything bigger. The ones they have now are 20cm I think. Although their sizes are as quoted the branches tend to spread out so it might be 20cm wide as well as 20cm long. I got one to fill a corner in Charlie's old cage as he seemed to feel a bit exposed there, and had it stood on the floor of the cage and wedged up against the corner on the far side of his sputnik, so it was a way into or out of his sputnik. He liked it. At first he climbed up it and sat on the top looking quite pleased. Mostly he'd sit under it or hide a hoard under it. He didn't use that route that often, but it adds a bit of interest maybe.

I'm not sure about them just lying on top of the substrate as they could fall on a hamster if they tunnelled under one, but I thought it was good for a corner, or against a shelf as an alternative thing to climb up or instead of a ladder.

I think they sandblast them to get rid of any grunge on them and clean them up but I still put mine in the freezer in a plastic bag for a few days first - you never know what little tiny things could be living in the wood. You can use google translate to translate the Rodipet pages (mainly useful when ordering). They seem to charge a flat postage fee of about £7, whether it's a small parcel or a large one, so I only order from there if I need more than one thing usually, or unless it's a large thing. It's silly to pay £7 postage for an item that only costs £3. Some of their things are quite reasonable prices, but their shop is a bit too tempting sometimes! I got the cork tunnel (smallest one) from there too because the size is what it says it is!

I had planned to have it next to the sputnik again in his new cage, or leading up the shelf but couldn't fit it in there so it's on top of the shelf at moment but I think it was better on the floor of the cage resting against the side.

It's always very good to know what kind of wood it is.Some people also say mopani, which is relatively unsafe for hamsters due to the chance of many different issues,is safe for birds.Whether or not they or correct is unknown, but that's an example of one wood that is generally considered safe for birds but unsafe for rodents. It's really a grey area on the substances that are safe for birds but unsafe for hamsters, whether it be in terms of woods, foods, toys, toy making materials,or other things.

It's a vine branch so it'll be from a vine. I don't know what kind of wood you would call that but if Rodipet sell them, they are hamster safe

It's probably grape wood or something like that, which would be safe.Definitely wait for a response though to be entirely sure!
