Default New Cages have arrived

Hi everyone! After waiting almost 6 weeks, my 2 Ferplast Duna Multy cages have arrived! I wanted to move the boys into them after I have finished work tonight when they are awake. I will move all their substrate from the old cages to the new and will keep a similar set-up. I will add a thick layer of substrate but I have one concern. The water bottle hole is very high. One of the boys has got a new house which has a flat roof and has slopes for him to get up. Can I place that under the water bottle for him to reach? I have one sanitized stone for the other and I hope that helps them reach along with a thick later of substrate.

I'm hoping they will be okay finding their water bottle. Has anyone else had this cage and what did you do as the set-up? I want to make the transition for them smooth and easy so I'm trying to plan the set-up ahead. I suppose the only concern is them reaching and finding their water bottle

Thanks

If the house is wooden I wouldn't recommend it, I put a bendy bridge under a water bottle and it got very damp, I put a puzzle playground block with on of their ramps under mine seems to work

You could place the water bottle there but should put something on the roof of the house under the water bottle to catch any drips. You could use a flat stone or stone/tile coaster or something along those lines. Here are some slate coasters from Tesco: Coasters that would work for example. I would maybe have a look at charity shops, you'd probably find something that will work and you only need one

Thank you! That is a great idea RubyDG
I won't put the house under it alone. I think I will have a look in the shops and find something suitable. I can't wait until tonight to see the boys explore their new cages. I will keep an eye on how they are getting on over the next few days and will leave them in peace to let them settle. I don't think Weaver will have any problems... he is such an adventurer. Pope is shy so I will give him extra hiding places so he feels safe in his new home. I'm so happy they have arrived... the wait was worth it! In a few days I will post some pictures when they have settled down

I often use shallow ceramic plant pot saucers under bottles, it keeps the water in rather than something flat where the drips just tend to roll off & the hams like to drink any drips from the saucer too.
Look forward to seeing your new cages when the boys are all settled in.

Thanks, cypher I never thought of that.
I'm going to have a look before I go to work. Thanks for all the great advice everyone! And for helping me pick these cages in a previous thread. I couldn't have done it without you!

Exciting! How come they took 6 weeks to get to you? Did you get them from Miscota? Just wondering, if the substrate was deep enough would the water bottles be accessible without needing anything under them?

I'm not sure why it took 6 weeks and I did get them from Miscota. I found slated coasters to put under the water bottles. They aren't too rough but it will keep their nails trimmed. I have probably put about 5-6 inches of substrate in their cages so the water bottle is a good height. I loved seeing them explore their cages! I was surprised because Pope, the shy Robo, was so excited and was playing with all his toys and really enjoying using the extra floor space! Weaver is a bit unsure which I found unusual for him but I will let them settle for a few days as it must be strange for them. The water bottles are taped on at the moment... very strong tape and they are secure but I can't seem to find a way to attach them properly! I'm very pleased with the space these cages have

I've heard they can take a while from Miscota - they come from Spain I think, but they're a good price on there!

Hi! I have this cage! I stuck the water bottle in with velcro Lol. You could put a bendy brige under it? I will post some pics tomorrow ... I ahevaa Syrian hamster, so find that hardly anything fits in because it is all so big! But I love that I can have deep substrate without it spilling everywhere! Plus, NO BAR CHEWING!!!
