Default Type of tissue?

I just wondered if you can only use toilet tissue for hamsters, or tissues like the ones you blow your nose on, or kitchen roll? Also, does it have to be a certain thickness or is any ok? Can you use textured tissue?

Tissues have to be plain with no additives for example, lotion. Not sure on paper towels. I think thickness and texture doesn’t matter much.

Thanks. Oh, I was just wondering how much substrate is good? I know some people vary it, but what is the average? Can a hamster suffocate if they have loads of substrate and have tunneled right under it?

Our Peanut likes to dig so I give her 4 inches or so of substrate. I don't think they will suffocate while burrowing. Our new hamster likes to sleep down in the substrate with just his belly sticking out

Best to stick to plain white toilet tissue, shredded & lots of it! kleenex type tissues are ok if they have nothing added to them but they don't break down so easily if swallowed, try putting a piece of each in a small amount of water to see how easily they break down to see. I wouldn't use kitchen towel it's too thick.
Substrate should be 15-20 cm deep & no they won't suffocate under it!
