Default New cage

I need to get Tilly a new cage and was thinking to get the Alenxander based on what you have all said on here
Is there any shops that sell it other then buying it online? I want to see it in real life first

Or I did think of making her one, but wasn't really keen on the boxes in IKEA

I have seen on gumtree a 2nd hand Hamster Heven but it's £50 and I think I can get a new one for not much more

Thanks

Hi. The Alexander is a great cage. I think it is only available online. You're right, £50 is a lot for a used Hamster Heaven and the Alexander is a much better size of cage altogether with another whole level and much more floor space. Zooplus also sell the Barney cage, which I have. It costs less than the Alexander and is a very similar size. It's about 4 or 5cm lower, with a flat top, and about 4 cm deeper. It only comes with the one shelf though, so if you like the extra level of shelves, then the Alexander might be a better choice. Both come with good houses. I decided to get an extra shelf for my Barney so it doesn't work out that much cheaper than the Alexander. It's on at a good price at the moment though! Normally it's £49.99 and it's currently £44.99.

Barney Pet Cage | Great deals at zooplus!

There's not much to see in the flesh! It has a fairly standard cage base, the bars are good quality and are narrow 7mm bar spacing.

My old cage was the same as the Hamster Heaven but without the tubes and penthouse (which most people end up removing) and I found it a bit on the small side once you have a wheel in there.

I personally have the IKEA detolf. It is quite big and you probably will need IKEA kallax too. It is both bad and good about the glass. It is bad because some hamsters may be scared by it's surroundings and it can be good because you can watch your hamster.

I don't know any pet shops around but if you choose to buy it online you can buy it at zooplus. Great deals on small pet cages at zooplus: Alexander Small Pet Cage

A DIY cage might actually be a better option than a wire cage or even a Detolf.

Hello

Just bought Tilly a new cage, well 2nd hand from gumtree its a Savic hamster heaven for £15

I wanted to get her the Alexander but saw that so go it, can't wait to give it a good clean and then give Tilly some playtime inside it,

It's massive compared to the one she's in now,
Need to get her some more bedding, and new wheel. I can't believe how big it is compared to her other one

That's a good price for a Hamster Heaven! I'm sure she will love it. It's a good idea giving her playtime in it before moving her I did that when I moved Charlie. I filled the base about 2/3 full of substrate and put in a couple of toys I was going to leave in there (old ones that wouldn't fit in his other cage). Then left the substrate in and added his old substrate on top of it when I moved him over.

Thanks

We have cleaned and sterilised it( hope that's ok with baby sterilising tablets) she has explored it whilst we were drying it,
I think I will put it together after I finish work at 8pm then she if she wants to play and explore,
She started biting her bars last night so I am glad I got her a bigger cage

Smile Re: New cage

Hello

She had play time in her new cage and ran around exploring it, she was in and out of all the tubes, I put some of her bits in there and left her to play,
She seemed to love it in there and loves the slide thing and climbing on the bars,

After about 2-3 hours she was stil in there playing so we gradually moved all her bits in and decided she may aswell move straight in, she didn't seem to want to come out and is now making her food stash and bedding area, she is running on her wheel with big puffed out cheeks,

The door will be easier to tame her aswell,

I am just going to observe her to see if she gets stressed but so far she is enjoying the new space
