Default Would this make a good bin cage?

I want to buy my robo a new bin cage but I want to make sure it's 100% suitable before I buy it. It says its dimensions are 71 x 44 x 31 cm. I just wanted to check that it would be suitable.

I think it would, just make sure it is properly ventilated and that the wire is to small for him to slip through.

Thank you! I was going to put the mesh on the top and maybe along one of the sides.

I would use 10 gauge wire mesh to make the side windows and the top could be the wire mesh or regular mesh. The link is for a good video that shows how to make bin cages

To be honest I'm not convinced because of the size - it's literally just under the bare minimum, plus you often find with bins the inside measurements work out a bit smaller. It might be worthwhile to try and find something a bit bigger.

I had a quick search online - it's going to depend on your budget really.

If you want to stick to the really useful boxes - which seem really sturdy and you can clip on the lid - I found a bigger one : 145 L Really Useful Box It's £36 including delivery and H43 x D81 x W62. So the length is only 10cm longer but it's much wider - that gives you a lot more square footage of space and may be a good option if you don't have space for a long bin.

If you are trying to stick to a tight budget I did find this one: 125 L Box which is only £19.06 (but that doesn't incl delivery). The dimensions are much better at 90cm x 35cm x 45cm. I can't speak for the quality of the box though, I'm guessing just your standard plastic storage box quality.

A more expensive option is this one : 133 L Jumbo Storage Box it's £33 plus £5.95 for delivery to mainland UK. The big bonus is that it's actually a pack of 2 boxes so you could actually join them side by side if you wanted to. They give internal dimensions of 88cm x 29cm x 40cm.

Lastly there is the Argos one 189 L Jumbo Storage. It's £34.99 and as it's Argos you can collect in store or have it delivered. Dimensions are H49cm x W109cm D53cm

If I had to choose I'd go for either the 145 L Really Useful Box or the Argos 189 L Jumbo Storage box. Again though it's going to depend on your budget, each box has it's pros and cons. I'd still recommened having a good search online yourself - you may find something good on a sale. Hope that helps a bit - let us know how you get on

I have one of those that I use as a play bin for my Chinese & do think they are a bit small as a full time cage, a bigger one would be better.

Keep an eye on costs as making a cage can end up costing more than a ready made one.

Cost of: bin, wire nuts, bolts, washers etc.

The costs can add up plus you can get the alaska from zooplus for 32.00 which seems like a real bargain. It is barred though so if you want a bin cage cos of not wanting bars it doesnt help much.

One of my roborovskis is in the alaska and seems fine.

There is currently a multidunamaxi cage on amazon for 52.00

You can also get a Duna Multy for about £34

I agree that the one you linked is a little on the small side as those are maximum measurements (probably external) and they tend to slope in at the base.

Ruby has given an excellent selection there. There's also this one on Amazon that is a good size (not sure if it's one of Ruby's link but I kept it in my basket on Amazon for future reference). 90 x 40 x 42 but probably more like 75 on the base inside. But it's just under £30 which is why buying something like a Duna Multy might be easier and cheaper in the end, especially if you need to buy the odd tool, mesh and cable ties etc.

EXTRA LARGE CLEAR PLASTIC STORAGE BOX WITH LID 133 LITRE: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

Porton Aquatics sell the standard size Duna Multy - not sure if the base is the colour they advertise or not, but you could always put stickers on the base if you don't like the colour
