Help! New Syrian needs new cage
I recently (yesterday) became new mommy of a Syrian hamster. She came with a cage, but I'm convinced it's far too small and she needs an upgrade from hamster prison cell to hamster haven. I am in the USA and have a good amount of Amazon.com gift cards to spoil my new baby with, but I'm a bit lost as far as picking something idea for her. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Re: Help! New Syrian needs new cage
Hiya. That`s handy having some vouchers to spend on her. I`m afraid I`m not familiar with cages in the US but the forum does have US members who I`m sure can point you in the direction of some good cages soon. It`s better to get a good one than waste your money on something unsuitable. x

Re: Help! New Syrian needs new cage
I suggest buying a very large tank with a lid at least a 40 gallon. But the bigger you can go the better! I already wish I had more room to give Bernie and he's in a 40 gallon.

Re: Help! New Syrian needs new cage
Hi & congrats on your new ham!
I'm not sure what's available on Amazon in the US but this thread might give you an idea of some suitable cages that you might be able to find.

Good luck with the cage hunt, your new ham sounds like she is going to be very well cared for

Re: Help! New Syrian needs new cage
Thank you all for the replies! Evie came to us in a small plastic cage with a 6 inch metal wheel-not appropriate for a Syrian. Her Wodent junior (biggest we could get in the cage) barely fits and leaves her little room for anything else. She does have a loft, but, as with most plastic cages, it's transparent and requires her to squeeze through a tube to access, which at her full grown size is not ideal. I've searched Amazon and found several options, then narrowed down to two after noting things like bar spacing and reviews specifically about Syrian hamsters. I did ultimately order yesterday though, since I felt it was best to transfer her asap. Her new cage will be here Wednesday and should offer twice the floor space while not compromising safety (too many larger cages had bars 2.5 cm apart). I think it will be a more natural home for her since her "safe place" won't be transparent and the depth of the base will let us provide more bedding.
I am grateful to her foster family for socializing her, but I'm not sure they knew too much about hamsters. Still, she seems healthy and happy, and seems pretty obsessed with her new wheel.

Great to hear she's getting an upgrade ASAP I'm sure she adores her new wheel!

Re: Help! New Syrian needs new cage
Jenibelle, she does! As soon as we put it in, she ran for over an hour straight even though it was daytime and she'd just had a considerable car ride to our home from her former one. She then had a good drink of water and a well-earned nap
