Default I'm back. New dwarf hamster

Hey guys. So I've been gone for a while because my hamster cage failed against my cat, unfortunately, and Rudy did not make it. I am back now after waiting months to make the cage I wanted in the first place and my partner got me a dwarf hamster for Christmas. He actually just put it in the cage, I didn't notice it the day before. But I now have a very secure bin cage that has a ssscat device on top to scare them away, and so after a few days they haven't tried to jump on top anymore. My hamsters name is Moby and he is the most adorable little fella. He is a dwarf hamster, I'm not exactly sure what type though. Figured out he likes to pee on cardboard which has discouraged him from wheel peeing. He seems to have a little sniffle going so I'm not sure if he has a cold or is allergic to something. I'll add some cute pics.

Congrats on little Moby, he looks lovely

It's great that you've made a safe bin cage but is there any way you can keep the cat out of the room your new ham is in? Even with the best safety measures in place the cat being in the room can still be quite disturbing to a little ham, they just know there's a predator about.
Which scat device do you have? Is it one that makes a sound? I'm just wondering if that could be a little bit disturbing for your ham too.

Keep an eye on the sniffles just in case he does have a cold, keep the room nice & warm night as well as day, give him loads of shredded toilet tissue to make a cosy nest & if you can put a deeper layer of substrate in the cage, it will help keep him warm & they love to burrow in it anyway so it's always best to put as much substrate as you can in there.

I keep my cats out of the room when I'm not in there. And the sniffles are gone now. But he always make some strange sniffle sound when I pick him up like he's allergic to me or something. I have taken down the ssscat device since the cats are not left alone in that room anymore.
