Default Triple Decker Bin Cage For Dwarf Hamsters

I found this video on a triple decker bin cage for a dwarf hamster. The lady is so creative and it's well worth having a look at her other cages to give you some ideas, she also does a double bin cage for one of her larger hamsters.

That looks amazing! I like how she has used old cage parts and has space for a spinner all on its own on one level.

Very inventive! I like the panels on the fronts being actual cage fronts with proper doors. The play-pens on the roof though? A Chinese hamster would be up and over that in an instant, so not for me. The clear Perspex surround is nice, but should be secured in a way (not just using tape) so that it cannot be moved. Other than using clamps of some kind that would need thinking about. Nice idea though.

I would prefer the Bins to have sloped access tubes though as she seems to have some vertical tubes inside the Bins. Now that`s an issue because hamsters cannot get down vertical tubes easily and Russian and robo dwarfs have hairy feet, so they may feel unsteady scaling tubes that are not aligned for easy access. So that's a design fault I would have to remedy. Otherwise, it`s lovely. Don`t fancy taking it all down though to spot clean or clean the tubes which will be peed in! x

Wow! That looks amazing. I might have to show this to my partner and convince him to help upgrade our bin cages

I was thinking the vertical tubes could well be a problem too tbh, I guess if you'd had a ham for a while & knew it could manage it might be ok but you'd have to rethink as it got older & a new ham might have a field day sleeping/hoarding/peeing in all those tubes!
I'm not sure it would be an easy set up to clean at all & it all just looks a bit condensed!
There are some good ideas there but personally I think most dwarfs would do better in a nice large single level cage with lots of substrate & maybe a few things to climb on or hide in!

With you on that cypher. I much prefer a decent floor space and add internal (low) shelving for added floor space with solid ramps that a hamster can easily and safely zoom up and down. They do like their tubes too, but tubing really needs to be set at an angle that doesn`t compromise the hamsters ability to reach things, especially water if the cage only has one water bottle for example and it happens to be on the top floor! I`ve seen set up`s that look fun, but if you look closely, they are not typically laid out with ease-of-use in mind. Remember, always imagine yourself inside that cage and be mindful of ach level and how it can be workable, rather than just the pleasing aesthetics. x

I'd rather not with this one, think I'd be signing up for HRN pretty quick

I can really appreciate the work and thought that's gone into that but at the same time I can't help but think Gimli probably doesn't appreciate it and would be just as happy in one big bin and the time it would take two clean all of it??? Making me tired just thinking about it!

The neatness of it and the way she has utilised all the second hand cages is really impressive though.

I honestly think that it looks a bit small, remember that you can't count extra floors as surface area It also looks like a lot of the space in it is occupied by tubes instead of running space It also looked like it had very little or even no substrate, but I could be wrong.

It's a cute cage but if I was going to make one similar i'd have to make improvements tbh

Looks a great play area. Agree that lots of continuous floor space with substrate to dig in would be my first choice for a cage.
