Default My Trixie and the Sputnick...

Trixie has absolutely no interest in the Sputnick that came with her new cage. I've tried it hanging and now have it sitting and she could care less. Even tried hiding treats in it. She takes the treats and is out. Suppose I should leave in her cage or take out?

Hello TriciaB209. If she's not using it at all, you can remove it and re-introduce it to her at a later date. I have 2 big boxes filled with things I bought the hams over time. I thought they'd love them, but since I am not a hamster, I was wrong. We can buy them the very best, big hamster home out there and hamsters will make us look silly by loving a shoe-box as their favorite place to sleep.

When I had a sputnik in the cage I used to put some substrate, a piece of hemp mat or shredded tissue in there to make it more comfortable & appealing, it's easier to hide treats or food in then too, most hams seem to like them but not all will so if that doesn't help I'd just give up on it & try to find something she'd enjoy more.

Is it the big sputnik or the small one? Charlie showed no interest in his as well at first. I started using the small one to put his veg in which meant he went into it for that reason - but it also helps if there is access to it on a couple of sides so they are more likely to go in and have something to climb out onto. His large sputnik I have a tube leading to it, tied to the roof, and the other end goes to his house roof - when I did that he started using it - and it has a circle of hemp mat in (substrate would do) to make it cosier, so he likes it now. I did have to set a trail of treats to it at first (through the tube and into the sputnik). Now he really likes it and even curls up in it for a bit for no reason. The small one he just goes in to get his veg - it's a bit small to sit in really.
