Wink Please help me to choose a cage !

Hello Everyone !
Iam new to this forum, just want to say hello ☺️ and ask for advice on my first cage for Dwarf hamster.I can only fit a maximum 80 cm long cage on chest of drawers And max 50cm depth There are 2 cages on my mind :

Sivic Mickey 2xl - I would remove a metal platform from inside and replace it with savic plastic one .What I don't like about it is that I have to buy another platform and it's made of plastic ( I don't know whether plastic or wood is better?) Measurements 80x50x45 .What I like about it is that it ha small bar spacing and big front door. Total cost would be £93

iMac stitch hamster cage measurements 80x48.5x38 . What I am not sure about its height As its only 38cm ( would that fit hammock?) and little front and top door . What I like about it is it already has a wooden platform
And little house . However Iam not sure about a wood . Total cost around £73

I was also considering of buying Barley cage however there is no way I could fit it on the chest of drawers.

Please see attached pictures for comparison.
I would be greatly appreciated for your opinions and suggestions . I am happy to go ahead with different cage too as long as it's made of a good quality material.
Thanks in advance !!

I'd say the Savic Mickey 2XL would be a brilliant cage for a dwarf hamster. I have that cage. I got it for our Syrian but have just upgraded him to a 100cm cage. I loved that cage - it is well built, has strong sturdy bars, and a really good big front opening door that makes access very easy for you and the hamster, and means you have the whole of the roof for hanging things, toys etc. Because of the large front opening door I would say it is a much better bet than the Imac cage. The top is also easy to get off the base with some attached metal clips at the side - it's a piece of cake getting the top on and off.

Like you, I took the metal shelf out. The cage also comes with some play tubes which are fine for a dwarf hamster (they were too small for a syrian) and nice sputnik, which I still have in our hamster's new cage

Originally I bought another plastic shelf/platform but ended up taking it out. What I'd recommend instead of buying a shelf is a flat topped house - the Trixie Leif labyrinth house is good - your hammy gets a great house and the top acts as a shelf.

This is how I had our Savic Mickey 2XL set up, but bear in mind everything is big for a large Syrian (large wheel, rat sized sputnik). But a large house is good for even a dwarf hamster - they have plenty of space for building a large nest, room for hoards and you can even fit a potty litter tray in as well.

It's also quite a safe cage I reckon - not too tall for fall risks.

Are you in the Uk? I think the small doors on the Imac cage would be a pain. If you still wanted a shelf or platform, you can get them in various places. Ranch house cages on ebay sells good wood shelves of all different shapes and sizes. Or you could have a flat roofed large-ish house at one end and maybe a corner shelf or two. I just wish our 100cm cage was as well built as the Savic Mickey 2XL and had a big front opening door. The 'eyelashes' on the photo of my cage are cable ties lol! The gap at the edges is about 8mm rather than 7mm which is fine for a hamster, but I wanted to keep mice out! Just in case (we've had mice before).

Sometimes it's better to start with an empty cage and a set up just works itself out. A lot of shelves and things that come with cages end up breaking or just not fitting in with your other cage contents.

If you have limited space I would definitely go for the savic mickey, or you could look at the Hamster heaven which is very similar (just don't use the tubes & penthouse!) you would need to remove the shelf in the Mickey but you don't necessarily need to buy another shelf, you can get a nice wooden house with a flat roof & use that as an additional shelf.
The most important things in the cage for a dwarf are the base full of substrate & some nice hideouts (egg boxes work really well!) a good size wheel (20cm) & some nice toys along with a good house, all of that will fit nicely into the Mickey & with the large door you have good access which makes interaction & doing things like spot cleaning or taking the wheel out for a bit of a clean if they pee in it a whole lot easier & less stressful for your ham than struggling with small doors.

Make sure it's the 2XL as there is a much smaller Savic Mickey

Good point! I always forget there's more than one size with those.

Out of the ones posted I would get Savic Mickey 2xl. I would take out any tubes at first to discourage the hamster from sleeping or peeing in the tube.

They could be used when the toilet corner and sleeping area have been established.

First of all , Thank you all very very much for such a great piece of information and picture provided for reference!! I am glad I have recently joined Hamster Community and its great to see there are people who love hamster as much as I do !

I just want to give you a quick update .. I bought Mickey xxl cage and its on my way to me ! .Also I have ordered a huge bag of 20kg Fitch bedding which should last me a while . I have heard its very good .Definitely , I would consider a house instead of plastic platform, thank you for giving me an idea ! Once it arrives I will put some pictures up .

I hope my new hamster would love it , I would love to see him happy , running around this cage and exploring all places ! I cant wait to start setting up this cage with lots of toys & accessories .Actually I really enjoy seeking for a toys online but there are soooo many to choose from !I dont think I could fit them all lol
