Links to plastic storage bins to make bin cage please
I am considering making a bin cage (will prob. just mesh the current grosvenor rat hamster cage for now) for my newly split up roborovski, Flower. She is perfectly happy but the bars are 1cm and she is only a baby (awww).
Fairy is in an alaska which seems ok.
So links to bins of around 80 x 50cm please. Bigger is always good though!
I have looked for AGES and cannot find anything decent.

I would have thought they could remain happily & safe where they are now in those cages if you have trouble finding suitable bins but about the best I've found are the large really useful storage boxes, the 64l one is about 71x44, the larger ones tend to be deeper rather than bigger at the base so that might be about the best, I only use them for play bins so I haven't really looked for anything bigger than that.

Re: Links to plastic storage bins to make bin cage please
OP is in the UK by the looks of it.
I think the biggest Samla bin from IKEA is 80x50 cm on the outside (ends up a bit smaller on the inside tho), or one of the biggest really useful box co ones is also that big and very sturdy. It's hard to find ones that have a big floor space rather than the extra dimension being made up by the bin being taller.

How about these from wilkinsons? Crystal Storage Box with Lid Clear 62ltr at wilko.com
i have 2 of these and they're good & you can fit quite deep substrate in & its got less height than some boxes which i find useful when interacting with my dwarf. a 6.5inch wheel fits in well enough & i've even had an 8inch wheel inside one. hope this helps
Heres my current dwarfs setup so you can see how it looks all setup XD

Re: Links to plastic storage bins to make bin cage please
Thanks guys. I actually have one of those bins you linked secretly dying which could be a great play box. Never thought of it as a cage. Your set up looks really good.
Cypher i am leaving well alone. Mesh all cut out ready for Flower's cage and cardboard in place for Fairy's alaska.
Bb i wish ikea was closer as i would get the detolf like a shot!
Scargirl thanks for the link.
Its so great having this place for advice and hamster appreciation!

Re: Links to plastic storage bins to make bin cage please
I found these recently. 100cm by 40cm. Internal they are 88cm by 29cm deep and 40cm high. So they're not that deep but nice and wide.
Buy Extra Large Plastic Storage Box with Lid for Christmas Trees
Although for the price of two of those you could get a Duna Multy.
You can sometimes find second hand detolf's on ebay going cheap. Don't Ikea do home delivery too? I guess that's expensive though.

Re: Links to plastic storage bins to make bin cage please
Yep, Winnie, The alaska is definately bigger than any boxes. I think the bars are close enough to be low risk escape wise and I have now put cardboard round near the shelf to disuade Fairy from trying to squeeze out!
Great links Winnie and Serendipity. We should have a sticky for storage boxes of reasonable sizes.
Ikea charge 35 for delivery making the detolf cost 75 ... I will stay with what I have.
They both seem ok. Both cages have nice deep bases. Just need to get something to hold back the tide of substrate. Got a couple of bendy bridges. Need more now!
