Question what cage would suit a pair robos?

Hi I doing some research about getting a pair of robos, I was wondering what sort of cage would be suitable.

Thanks

The only advice I can give you is that the cage can't have any levels- so the hamsters can't claim territories which will lead to fighting.

Also make sure you have 2 of everything- 2 bottles, wheels etc.

It would be best to scatter the food instead of using a food bowl. And obviously make sure it meets the RSPCA min. size requirements.

I made a mistake at the start when my cage had 2 levels and I didn't have 2 of everuthing- this led to my robos fighting and sadly I had to seperate them.

Hope this helps

Savagefrog has some great info, but I came to recommend some cages. Bin and tank cages are great for housing pairs, so is the Zoozone 2. I don't have much personal experience with housing pairs in barred cages, but I'm sure others will post their experience/recommendations. I just prefer non-barred cages as there is not a chance of bar chewing.

Zoozone 2 is a good choice but you will need to mesh the top bars to prevent escapes. If you have the room then an ikea Detolf might work well, it's very long (163cm) so not everyone has the space for one but its a cheap way to get a really great amount of space.

If you wanted a barred cage I would say you would need one designed for mice with smaller bar spacing, say 7mm instead of the standard 10mm to be on the safe side. The Barney is the one that jumps to mind.

I reckon the best one for two dwarf hamsters is the Ferplast Duna maxi multy. Same size as the Zoozone 2 and very similar but has smaller bar spacing on top. Being a tank style cage, it's a bit safer and not too high for them to fall from the top. I guess you might still need to mesh the bars on it though, or keep everything low in the cage.

The other one that would be good is the Kerry Terrarium. It's a glass tank so no bar spacing issues, safer to prevent escapes, and the top is 7mm bar spacing so no meshing needed. It's a little on the small side but almost the same size as an 80 x 50 cm cage which is the minimum size recommended for a pair of dwarf hamsters.

Or as Shannon says, a detolf!

There are cages with 7mm bar spacing - the Barney is one, but they are also a fair bit higher and they can hurt themselves climbing bars and falling from a height.

My honest opinion is none. Pairs usually fall out so if your prepared to have another cage of the same size and type, this is what is required if thinking about keeping a pair. My choice would be the Ferplast Duna Multi due to it`s top narrow grill and no meshing, or the Zoozone 1 for a pair. The Zoozone 2 is very long and large and personally, unless you want a vast amount of floor space then the Zoozone 1 is probably adequate for a pair of robos. Think about whether you may every need to separate them and have two Zoozone 1 tanks rather than a very large cage and then one small cage for the one who ends up needing it`s own space. So say for example you bought a Zoozone 1 for the pair to live in and they did fall out, you could substitute with a spare Ferplast Mini Duna until such a time another ZZ1 could be found.

This is of course if they did fall out. Not suggesting they would, but most pairs do. It`s always a good idea to think about this. x
