Apologies for the pics being on their side. I'm getting better - my previous pics were upside down !

What I've found is the wheel mounted in this way is extremely secure. Previously, when just sat on the substrate then I thought there was a lot of wobble - but i do have several inches of carefresh beneath.

He's actually taken to burrowing and sleeping in an area beneath the wheel - he'd be unable to do this I reckon if the wheel was stood on its base.

I wonder if it might be best for an Admin to move this thread to the DIY section ?

Wow that's impressive. It's simpler than I thought as well.

Yes - pretty straight forward. The only awkward bit it getting the upright to stay upright if you mount it upside down.

In my experience, on my cage anyway, if you mount the upright the correct way around, then the wheel ends up being a little higher and may need a step up to it. The way I've mounted mine he can easily climb in.

Not that he's decided to use it yet, the ungrateful little so and so

Thank you so much! That is really simple so I will definitely be doing this! As well as moving to the DIY section, perhaps it should be made a sticky thread so its of easy access?! It's a very useful thread!
(P.s. Don't worry about the photos mine always go wonky!)

Little Barnaby has finally given his seal of approval to his wheel. He was happily playing on it through the night last night. I was starting to think all my hard work was in vain

Glad Barnaby is enjoying his wheel! When we had one of those Charlie liked to run fast and then stop and sit in it while it was swinging backwards and forwards. Other times he like to run fast and then jump out of it while it was still spinning and land with a flump on the substrate, then lie there looking pooped! So best look out for any hard things near the front of it in case he decides to jump out while it's spinning!
