Cage advice please!!!
Hello. I have a very laid back syrian called Woodstock (fluffy white male with red eyes and black pigment on his ears).
He lives in a barney cage.
My friend impulse bought a syrian who is in a tiny temp. bin cage and she would like a barney for him (getting one for Christmas).
Question. Do I get Woodstock a zoozone 2 and give new hamster the barney or is the barney best for Woodstock? (In which case we would buy new hammy a barney as well).
He gets out of bed in the mornings has a good old hunt about for his brekky (half in a food dish and half scatter fed) then bed all day. Up around midnight for a long wheel session.
A long waffley way of asking which is best for a slightly older very calm syrian, a barred cage or a tank style??? Opinions welcome.

Hi flowerfairy. If your older ham has been okay where he is and has not had any problems, I would leave him where he is. Woodstock is familiar with his home and routine. The only time it's necessary to move a ham from a barred cage is if (s)he bar chews.
I'd just let the new ham have his own new home for Christmas.

Yeah I think you are right. He is perfectly happy, one of the most contented hamsters I have even known.

Awww. True. He lived downstairs all summer in a five foot by two foot double story rabbit hutch but with winter coming I felt it would be best if he came up to my bedroom. I have hardly handled him as I was a way a lot, but recently have been stroking him.
He is totally relaxed. He just looked round at my hand and carried on eating. How laid back is that? He is beautiful as well!

That sounds lovely! I agree, I would leave him where he is. If he gets less mobile as he gets older you could rearrange things a bit for safety, but familiarity is good for hammies.
