Default Plastikote on wooden wheel etc.

Hi. We're due to pick up our Hamster on Friday from the breeder.
The cage is now all set up with some diy custom shelves.

Tonight I'll be in plastikote mode. I have the large wooden Wonderland wheel. I've removed the base of the wheel and I've screwed the wheel to the back of the cage - looks very smart. Do I only need to plastikote the inside of the wheel ?

I plasticoted the whole thing to make it easier to wipe clean but you could get away with just the inside as that is the most likely part that your hamster will pee on.

Good luck with your new friend. What type/colour, etc?

I'd definitely plastikote the inside, two coats is best, you won't know till you get your ham whether it'll enjoy peeing in the wheel or not but chances are it will at least sometimes!
I plastikote the whole wheel too, if you don't want to do that I would just do the rim at the front as that tends to get pee on it & it will make cleaning a lot easier.

Thanks.

He's a little beige satin fella - a very handsome chap.

Ooo he is gorgeous. Hope he enjoys his plasticoted wheel.

I love the fact that they are so quiet. Much quieter than his old trixie one (his feet seemed to make a noise on the plastic).

He's beautiful!

Not sure if it's too late but Winston pees on the base of the wheel sometimes, might be best to plastikote the base, inside panels and the edging bit as all of these (from what my hams have) get wee on them.

Thanks Winnie.
I've actually removed the base from my wheel and I've mounted the upright of the wheel to the bars of the cage.
