Default Mocho's new cage

I decided to get a new cage for Mocho and ordered the Barney from zooplus. It came the other day but was slightly damaged so two corners needed glueing and reinforcement. Today it was ready for the new setup and I followed all the advice I have read here over the months.

Mocho was in a hamster heaven. Quite quickly I did not use any of the bits it came with for different reasons. Having now got a Barney I would say that the HH is a better quality base - thicker, less brittle and less bendy. Also as so many others have said, if the 2 small front doors were one big one like the HH it would be so much better. The bar section overall is firmer but wider with the HH. I know Serendipidy contacted Savic to say what about a 100 cm cage - a stretched HH would be excellent. I agree entirely.

I wanted Mocho to have more cage space as he never asks to come out and play. He now has 2sputniks and rat tubes and other extra bits. My daughter and her bf happened to come by and he is an excellent cage designer and got to work. Dusty scolded me again for being too soft with Mocho and got him out and he played happily for a while examining his new carrot house and rough stone for his nails (which she pointed out need watching) so he had seen them before going in the new cage. I was surprised by how much exploration he did before finally going to bed. His big house and bedding went without change except for the stinky Fitch from his ensuite bathroom. He does use his potty too so all is not lost.

The HH was quickly boxed up by hubby in case I get ideas eyeing up an empty cage! Of course if Mocho ever needed to he could return to a slightly smaller cage in future.

First pic of the new set up. The carrot cottage and potty are under the shelf on the left. I hope he gets used to the route to the sputniks via the tunnels at the back and does not drop straight out of the pick one for the short cut home. We shall see.

Glowy just got a new Barney too, fortunately the base was intact though. It is a very spacious cage and I'm pleased with the quality compared to the Alaska. If he's anything like Glowy he will just throw himself out of the Sputnik lol!

Charlie used to throw himself out of the Sputnik! That's why I put the tube there. I love the layout Coco, with the two sputniks. It is how I had planned to lay out a Barney! With the wheel next to the shelf and the house front right for access. I bet he will be exploring like crazy when he's had a few days to adjust.

Fab set up. Trust another Zooplus cage to arrive with broken corners though. Did you contact them with some photos of the damage for some money off the price if you decided to keep the cage? How much did you pay for it Coco? They might have sent you a new base. x

Thank you all for the replies.
BB I saw you were getting a Barney and held my breath for you. Mine must have been dropped and there is no packaging inside the box to protect the corners.
RH - yes, I was aware of this being possible so I did not get excited when I saw an undamaged box on the outside. Hubby was surprised at my pessimism and then saw I was right. Thanks to earlier advice on HC I took photos at once and emailed zooplus. Hubby examined the pieces as one corner had a jigsaw of 3. The other side was only cracked. Zooplus replied the next morning and offered 50% back, ie £25 if I was happy to keep the cage. Hubby thought he could fix it and he has done so. Glue wasn't enough, we used strong tape underneath to reinforce it. I accepted the zooplus offer so wait for the credit
Funnily enough I had forgotten to add the snuggle pads to the order and was cross with myself. Now I have the cage for £25 and can have £25 towards 3 snuggle pads for all the extended hamily!
Cypher, I am sure he will be more active in the dark. That is my hope. I just dont want him flinging himself off sputniks but he did drop down once, so more Fitch must go in tonight!
