Default Window Screen as DIY Bin Lid- Ventalation

Hi everyone!

I have a DIY bin cage that my sweet girl, Laydee, lived in until she died recently (age 3) <3 . I didn't need a lid on the bin for her, she was 2 when I adopted her and tiny and slow. Never worried about her jumping out.

I recently adopted a new little Russian Dwarf, Smokey. He is young, strong, and FAST. A lid is in order! He is already in the bin, 3 days only.
The original plastic lid to the bin was carved mostly out- really only the edges remain. I covered the lid with an actual window screen, tiny mesh. I was wondering if anyone else has used window screen? I am hoping that it is enough ventilation? I can go buy some wide wire mesh if I need to, just being overly cautious. Thank you!

I did use window screen in a pinch once many years ago as a lid on a gerbil tank. The gerbil managed to grab the screen and it was so flexible that it bent under his weight and he was able to escape. Personally I would get heavier gauge wire because of that.

Thank you, that is very good feedback, I hadn't thought of that!
