Default Suitable Cage for Rescue Syrian?

I'm soon to take on a 6 month old Syrian whose current owner is no longer able to have her. She's currently in a Rotastak Pink Palace, but I'm planning to get a new cage for her, as I don't like Rotastaks at all. I'm considering either a Savic Cambridge or an Imac Fantasy, and would value all your opinions as to which of the two is best.

i think you'll get some mixed opinions about that, as they are both popular cages. A lot of people love the imac but personally i can't stand it. Very fiddly and the hamster can't charge about from layer to layer as they can in the cambridge as they have to slow down to climb the tubes. Also, a large hamster may have trouble fitting in the tubes. I also found the imac a pain to clean, with all its lumps and bumps. I've had 2 imacs, now stored in my shed awaiting sale, and i'm currently using 4 cambridges. Personally, i'd try to pick up a cheap cambridge on ebay (where i got my 4).

I share your feelings about rotastack.
I have a savic cambridge and find them surprisingly spacious (not me personally but my hammies!), the little annoying thing is the curved top as all my other cages are flat topped so I can put things on top when rearranging etc but always forget with the cambridge and have bottles and toys rolling all over the place...
Good luck with your new friend
Take care

Cheers zeppelin, I was down at my local P@H this morning and had a look at a Cambridge. One thing of concern I noticed was that the little door on the side of the cage seems to be very easily opened, and could be a potential escape route for a determined hammy. Have you ever had any problems of this kind?

i've got a couple of hams who do chew at the doors and they've not been able to open them.

i prefer cages like the gabber rex myself, but we got the cambridges simply because we didn't have space to fit 2 rexes side by side on the dining table!

I have both, and love both as do the hams that are in them. I'd say maybe more to go for the Cambridge, just incase its a larger hamster you are taking on, which might not be able to fit through the tubes to the other levels in the IMAC. As for the Cambridge doors, I've never had any problem with Misty nor William opening the door, and Misty is a very big hamster!

Best of luck
