Best Wheel Size for a Syrian Hamster
Yesterday, I finally ordered a Savic Hamster Heaven from ebay for £21, and I've been trying to get it for ages. Since Lola is getting a new, bigger cage, I thought it would be a good idea to get her a new wheel.
I was wondering what is the best size of wheel for a syrian, which can fit inside the Hamster Heaven (50cm I think), and what anyone recommends?
I am really excited for Lola's new cage, and can't wait until the end of next week!

Rupert has the 11'' Karlie Wonderland wheel. With the stand, it is 32cm high, so should fit fine in your cage.

It is big enough for Syrians to run with a straight back and is totally silent. We love ours

Pets At Home do this one which is virtually identical, more expensive though.

Re: Best Wheel Size for a Syrian Hamster
The hamster heaven cage is actually about 38cm high - the 50cm height thing is misleading as it includes the height of the penthouse. But it's still high enough to fit a 27cm to 30cm wheel in. How big is your syrian? Average, large? If she's average sized then the 28cm Trixie wheel might be ok too. It's plastic and a bit lightweight so would probably need something to hold the base down. The wood wheel would need plastikoting (waterproofing). They're good wheels though, but it would need checking over carefully for any rough bits or splinters and then painting with the plastikote paint.
Pets at home don't seem to have much else of a choice online - not sure about in store, but you can order the Trixie wheel from Amazon or Zooplus here.

It's only £8 at Zooplus but then there's postage on top. £11 at Amazon with free postage.

Wodent wheels are also good and sturdier than the Trixie wheel but you can only get those online at two places and they're out of stock at both. If you wanted one though I could sell you the one I just bought and was about to return as I need a bigger wheel. I paid £15 plus £4.50 odd postage, but you can have it for £15 and I'll pay the postage if you want it. If not I'll return it. You can order them from Germany but it might be easier to get a Trixie wheel. I wouldn't recommend the Trixie one if you have a really big heavy syrian though.

Re: Best Wheel Size for a Syrian Hamster
I recently bought the P@H large wooden wheel to replace my Fluffy's Trixie. If you plan on using the penthouse and shelves, you will have trouble getting it to fit; I couldn't. If it wasn't up against the pink shelf, it was rubbing against the tube coming down from the penthouse.
If you don't use the penthouse, then it should fit, although the large door in the front will be mostly blocked. XD
The Trixie wheel does fit fine, though, without blocking the entire door, and I bought another one yesterday off Amazon for a little over £11...as shown in Serendipity's link. For a hamster that weighs 150-210g, it works fine, although after a year or so it may need replacing, as mine does.

Thanks, Lola weighs 155g, so I'll probably look to buy one of those instead.

Re: Best Wheel Size for a Syrian Hamster
I'd also say either the Trixie or the Wodent wheel, which are similar. The Wodent wheel is slightly sturdier, but the Trixie is easier to get hold of.

Re: Best Wheel Size for a Syrian Hamster
Serendipity - you know I brought home a new baby yesterday. I will introduce him soon. I have no wheel yet as he is so young. I wanted a large Karlie as I bought one for Dusty at Christmas but I am dismayed at the current state of them. I can get my husband to do the DIY (unlike me he is retired so no excuse!) but if the Wodent is out of stock I will gladly buy it off you and pay the postage too.
