How to keep Silent Spinner from moving across the floor?
Hey, guys! I keep my Syrian in a 20 gallon tank and gave him a Silent Spinner. The problem is, every time he's using it, it ends up scooting across the floor while he's in motion. Not only does it make a lot of noise, but he can't run in it properly due to it's movement and it has tipped over before. Do you guys have any tricks to keep it in one place? I was thinking maybe taping or gluing it, but I want to make sure nothing will be toxic to the hamster and I'd like to be able to pick it up when I'm cleaning the cage.

I use duct tape, none of my hammies have ever bothered it. That being said, I am planning on trying velcro instead, I use it for their water bottles and they don't mess with it and if they did I don't think they could get any harm from it

I just put down a layer of bedding, then pack more bedding down on top of the stand...
and I've got the huge 12" wheel for my Syrian...
It doesn't move at all.
sounds like you may need to put more substrate on the bottom.
He must really get going when he runs! ha ha

What size is it? I'm thinking it must be fairly small to fit in a 20 gallon tank which is also quite small. You may need to upgrade.

I have the regular sized 6 1/2 inch wheel. The 12 inch seemed wayyyy too big, although it could fit in my tank. The 20 gallon is certainly big enough for him. Much better than the cage I found him in.

Can you use blue tack to the floor of the tank? My hamster has a wooden wheel which used to migrate across the tank all the time, then end up rubbing on things and making a really annoying noise! Now its blue tacked to the wooden platform it is on and its fine

Hi RocknRage - if you are good at DIY, you made be able to get a piece of board and attach the wheel to it with tiny arched clips, it would stop the wheel from tipping over and from wandering. When I first saw the title of the thread, I just had an image of your fluff running in the wheel and it travelling across the room at a rate of knots! Hehe

I would be a little worried about my fluff nibbling at the blu-tak if I used it in a cage. :/

Fair enough - mine has a big wooden base so she can't get to the blue tack

Re: How to keep Silent Spinner from moving across the floor?
I recently took a pine shelf that wasn`t being used and I sawed the end off, attached a Rody wheel stand to the wood using `U` shaped nails to hold the corners down and that made the whole stand solid. Then just attach the silent spinner. Make sure you place a good amount of shavings under the wooden stand and then cover the rest with substrate. This does work well and prevents noise and the stand toppling over! So if you can get a spare piece of pine shelving or skirting board (off-cut) in pine, this would do. Have a look around the house/shed/garage or go to a builders yard, DIY store? Skips are also a good free source for wood!
