Smile Detolf

Hi everyone, so if you have read my previous thread you may know my hamster Tibbles is a chewer, she picked up the habit from her previous owner after living in the smallest cage ever. Although she has come on really well and doesn't chew half as much as she used to she still does it occasionally and so I have to put toilet roll tubes around the bars which as you can imagine makes so much noise so she has to be moved downstairs every night so I can get some sleep. Over the past few weeks I've been looking on eBay, preloved and gumtree incase an ikea detolf pops up, I've always wanted one but because the Hamsters cages are the rspca recommended cage requirements I wasn't going to go out and spend £40 anytime soon. So a seller on eBay is selling 4 ikea detolf's in my area! They are currently on 99p and end on Sunday, so I can see myself getting a couple for an amazing price!
Now I'm not a 100% sure I'm getting these I just wanted to ask a couple of questions before I did buy it.
I was hoping to split the detolf into two cages for my Syrian's Bruno and Tibbles but was just wondering would this be suitable seem as though they are Syrian's?
Also does anyone have any advice on making the lid for the cage, I've seen a few techniques but was wondering what method is the best to make the lid? I don't want anything to complicated as its my dad who will be making it and he isn't the best at DIY projects bless him
Finally if you have any advice overall on the detolf please let me know. Once again sorry for the long thread i just get carried away haha

Hey, I recently changed to a detolf due to chewing, here is the thread I made with info on what I think about it, about how to decorate the cage and what the lids are like with some tips.

New Detolf!

Hope you find it helpful!

I can't comment personally about separating it into two, I know people do it but I'm not sure the best way. I would say that the dimensions are not exactly correct - the length includes to the top and bottom of the stand, and the width is from across the wood base/too which is wider than the glass parts are so its not as wide or long as the dimensions sugest, however this it is still huge! I found I ran out of space getting stuff in for penguin, but maybe that's just me! It is a fantastic cage so far, I really love it

If you have any questions feel free to ask

New Detolf!

I'm definitely getting the one I've seen on eBay it ends tomorrow and is currently on £10, I'm so excited to get it I've being one for a while due to how nice it looks and because of the large space. I know it's possible to split it in half I've read a blog of someone that did this with there two dwarfs, I just wasn't sure if two Syrians would be ok in it obviously halted. Like I said there cages are currently quite close together and have never had any problems, i think I'm going to give it a go and keep a good eye on them and if I do see they are stressed I will obviously have to make the hard decision of taking one of them out until I can get another detolf. I'm definitely going to have a look at your thread right now

So I won the detolf for £26, a bit more than I was hoping but I'm so glad to have got it. Fingers crossed Tibbles and Bruno love it and it should be done (the lid) by the end of next week. Will post some pictures when it's all done

Its still a great buy! I had to get mine delivered and even with the extra cost I'm still really really happy with what you get for the money, so I'm sure your Hammies will love it too
