Hi thanks for taking the time for me bubble n squeak, they were cleaned out today and we always take them to the bathroom and pop them into the bath but we always leave something in there with them so that they can see that its theres there smell on it, its usually the tube that goes on the outside of the hamster cage..

While I have been looking at different cages on here I was just thinking of buying a either new one or a second hand one as I have ready many threads that the cage isnt made for to of them,

So my husband chris well we came up with the idea of putting loo roll tubes submerged under there wood shavings and just leaving the hole exposed, also we made out of cardboard a whole new platform with a ladder and such for there food as i have read somewhere that they dont like to have there food on the same level

Also now im paranoid that there not eating very much, they love peanuts, and normal hamie food but dont eat all that much of it, they have it in there tiny bowl but they dont seem to eat much of this, do u think its because we have only had them a week and they are very young?

Hello again!

Well, they are very teensy and so they won't eat that much really. Tiny, my Robo', doesn't eat all that much. They will still be getting used to everything etc too, so I wouldn't worry too much at the moment. *Don't* just top food up though, make them eat 'all of it' so that they get a rounded out meal. Otherwise they'll just pick out the best bits and keep eating them.

Zoozone one's are relatively cheap at about £30 - £40 which is much the same price as the much smaller Hamster Duna's that they sell in Pets At Home so I'd thoroughly recommend getting one on-line if you can as you'll be getting a better cage for less.

Sometimes very tiny hammies struggle a bit with the large size seeds in regular mix. We supplement with budgie seed, millet sprays, linseed, omega mix and chopped nuts from the bakery section in the supermarket. There are lots of little things you can give them. They do not eat an awful lot at this age though.
Robos are wonderful to watch and you may like to consider something like a perfecto tank or look on freecycle for an aquarium you could kit out. They can be harder to clean but hopefully your OH will help out there.
Looking forward to meeting them

Hi thanks so much for all your help...we took the bullet and got them a new cage hope its the right one for them, we bought it from Pets at home , its called a Savic Mickey Max has two levels and we removed the bottle that we got with it as it did the same as everyother one we have had it just dripped...we all the shavings that we had put in there...they have had more changes than I have had hot dinners ...none of the plastic bottles seem to work so now we have got a better one now where they have to push the nozzle up and drink from it...

We removed the house as only one of the hamsters would sleep in it and we bought a log roll and made this into a house the only trouble is that im not im doing anything right with them, when we 1st had them they were running around and playing and always sleeping together..

Now there not like that at all...squeak seems to be always awake and is more friendly she took a cornflake from my hubby last night where as bubble is always asleep and not really interested in wanting to come out and have a nose around, they dont sleep together anymore either...is there something wrong with them am I doing something wrong,

We left the tube from the other savic cage that we had and bubble sleeps in there, do you think that if i were to remove it they would sleep together?

personally i think would i like to live in it???? if the answers no then dont expect your hamster to be happy in it!!! i have heard that there is a new animal law being brought in by the rspca stating the smallest size cage a animal can live in by law. this should hopefully get these cages out of the petshops! for an inexperienced pet owner they look fine. after all it says HAMSTER CAGE on it! looking back to when i was a child you couldnt buy large cages. they just didnt make them. and i believe now the cages my hams lived in when i was a child were also too small.

if your hams are going their own seperate way it may be because they are growing into adults. im not sure as i have syrians not dwarfs. x

I'm sorry but there's no way I would house two dwarf hamsters in a Savic Mickey Max.... I didn't mention this cage as it's not one I would use. I have one and it's strictly a temporary cage. I would keep an eye on them as if they aren't sleeping together it could be a sign that they aren't happy so if you see *any* marks of biting or see fights then be prepared to split them up.

As I initially said; the bare minimum sized cage I would use is a Zoozone one for two dwarf hamsters. You will struggle to fit two wheels in this cage and sufficent toys to keep them happy. If they only have one wheel there is a strong chance they will fight.

But I am confused here as the Savic Mickey Max only has one level so are you sure it's not a Savic Cambridge cage?

Like this:

If it's a Savic Cambridge it will be plenty big enough but the bar spacing is a little wider than the Mickey Max so not sure if you would have bought this cage... :P

This is the Savic Mickey Max cage (small blue based one on top of the Gabber Rex):
