Default Wodent Wheel VS Silent Spinner

I'm really struggling to pick.... I currently have the SuperPet Comfort Wheel and it's driving me nuts! I want a "silent" wheel as my hamster lives in the bedroom at the moment and my baby is due any day now and I can't have Moonstone keeping him awake for any longer than it takes for the new wheel to be delivered. After looking into wheels I am officially stuck between the Wodent Wheel/Trixie Rodent Wheel and the SuperPet Silent Spinner.

I have a small Syrian hamster and I am aware that she needs an 11/12" wheel, as she's just a little bit too big for an 8".

What are your opinions on these wheels?
Pros and cons?
Do they become louder with age?
Anything else you can think of?

Thank you so much!

I prefer the wodent wheels. I mount mine upside down on the cage/bin/tank. With a bit of teflon tape on the axle, and being upside down, I find they're much more silent than the "silent" spinners, at least at the 12'' size.

I have both and feel like they make about the same amount of noise. Wodent Wheels are a pain to clean, so if your hamster pees in the wheel, it can be a bit annoying. Otherwise I like them better than the silent spinner, I feel they are safer and the hamsters really like them. I defiantly would buy the real wodent wheel and not the trixie version (had that one before), it runs a lot smoother and is quieter.

Having used all of these wheels, I would go elsewhere entirely, lol.
My Tansy and Chester have the Wodent Wheel and the Trixie wheel, and neither of them are particularly quiet; the Trixie being the worse because its flimsier. As it is cheaper and not made as well, its noisier by far. The Wodent also, as mentioned, is SUCH a pain to clean, and quickly gets pretty gross if your hammy is a little grub-ball (*ahem* yes you, Chester). Granted, its a lovely wheel, sturdy, and will last ages - buts its not silent, and it gets messy.
Although I love the Silent Spinner for dwarfies, as the smaller 6.5" one is excellent, the larger 12" doesn't seem to be on the same par. Plus they are so expensive.

If I could recommend a wheel, it would be the Karlie Wonderwheel. Perhaps not such a good idea if your ham is a proper chewer, as its made of wood, but it is still my favourite for Syrians (my fav for dwarfs being the Silent Spinner).

I actually like the Comfort Wheels but they can be noisy without a little help. I take them apart regularly and clean and oil the spindle to help make it run more smoothly.

Wodent Wheels are a pain to clean but are seldom noisy if you oil them. You also might need to secure the base because sometimes heavy hams can bounce it right across the cage Plus you can have them on a stand or use the stand to hang it from the roof if floor space is an issue, which also helps if it won't sit still.

Silent Spinners are great until you get into the big ones. Then I find that they're so front heavy that they quickly stop running smoothly. Mine eventually broke down altogether

Flying Saucers are lovely but take up a lot of floor space and take it from me, you do not want that thing anywhere near a sand bath! Turbo kicked sand in the spindle on his and destroyed it

I am thinking of getting the wonder wheel for Dolly. I've heard that a lot of people coat theirs to avoid pee stains. Have you done this? And if so, what with?

I have a 12" Silent Spinner for my Syrian Star, and I find it really quiet, but it is very big and expensive (at least where I live). If your cage is large, as I am assuming it is, and you have the money of course, that shouldn't be a problem. Star hasn't had any issues running in it because of the size, and we had it since I brought her home (she was about two months and about the size of a dwarf .) One think to remember is that, and this may be a problem with all free-standing wheels, I wouldn't know, but I have found now that Star is bigger she had taken to climbing up the back and grabbing the bars on top of the cage to chew on them, the little stinker. Other then that, I don't have any issues with the sound, it is still very quiet, though some people on the web have claimed that they get louder with more use. Either way, its just kind of a random thing. You could end up with a loud wheel no matter what you do, but there are things you can do to lessen the sound.

Whatever you choose, good luck!

I myself haven't, as the hams I've used them with don't make a mess of their wheels, but I know a lot of people do.
Most people use a product called Plastikote. It's supposed to be safe for hams as you can use it to coat children's toys, and seals the wood to help stop it soaking up any pee. You can buy it in Wilkos, and its only a few quid.

Archie's wheel doesn't make much noise, he didn't like the flying saucer, however Twinkle prefers the flying saucer and is never off it. I personally think she's going for a hamster record as she goes so fast lol.
