Construction!
CB and I will be spending winter break with my parents, and her big bin cage is impossible to transport, so I'll be bringing her old collapsible cage and sent some stuff ahead so I can assemble it when I get there.
I bought a habitrail OVO tower for the tubes to connect everything and a 66quart container for the space, so it'll end up being twice as big once it's all constructed- it'll just be an issue of making the 66 into a bin cage, cutting a square in the collapsible cage's bars, cutting a hole in a piece of acrylic sheeting, attaching it to the bars, and attaching the OVO tubes to the hole. Then all I have to do is cut a hole in the quart container, connect, and we'll be set. Oof. So much construction.
She's a bar chewer, so I thought if I'd expand the original cage while we're at my parent's, she'd be less stressed and more content, but I realized that she's a bratty ham and might get spoiled and I'll have to expand her cage here at home!
Oh well, at least I have the stuff for an expansion here already

Re: Construction!
Oooh, how exciting! ^^
I love the babitrail set. When you've got a cage already and the habitrail is just an add on, or you've got more than one of the cages, I think they make great little homes. Although, to be honest, most people think otherwise!
Sounds like a big project, but I'm sure it will be amazing when you've finished. Goodluck! I hope it goes well.
I've got a bar chewer to! It might not be to do with the size of the cage, it could just be a habit. Lots of hamsters do it because they like the noise, or just as a way of exercising.

Do you find the habitrail tubes to be big enough for a Syrian hamster? She's about 5 inches long- smaller than a hamster from a breeder, but heading to the healthy pudgy side at 160g

I'm sure they'd be big enough for your Syrian, just make sure you don't get the dwarf habitat! How old it she?

She's about 7 months, so I think she's adult size by now

Re: Construction!
Aww she's gorgeous! Yeah she's an adult!
Sounds like you're very organised with your upcoming winter break to your parents, it's good to be organised.
So it's CB's first Christmas?, she's going to be spoilt rotten and a holiday as well lucky hammie .

Re: Construction!
She's an adult, and quite a little adult to! She'll definitely be able to fit through the tubes, no problem.
It's Puff's first Christmas as well! I never even thought of that! I'll have to get her involved in all of the Christmas action so that it's one to remember ^^

Re: Construction!
Having seen the tiny spaces my Syrian can get through the tubes shouldn't be a problem unless she's got her cheeks stuffed full of Christmas treats!

Yep, first christmas! She's put on a bit of chub, so I'm less worried about the weather- but she's already spoiled rotten!
