Re: Is this marchioro cage any good for syrians?
Didn't catch the specs....but if it is the correct size, and made for rats, I don't see why it wouldn't be wonderful for a Syrian....

I would go for the bigger one I think the smaller one is under the recommended cage size someone may be able to confirm that

It's about 476 square inches, which easily surpasses the US minimum of 360. So it gets my pass, but if you can find something bigger for the price, I'd go for larger, especially for Syrians

Re: Is this marchioro cage any good for syrians?
It's a good price. It's quite high so you would need to fill the base to the top with substrate to make it less high and provide a soft landing in case he fell from the roof. Good height for platforms and deep substrate though. As others say it is within the realms of being big enough, but I'd be careful over the bar spacing. I don't think I'd want anything bigger than 1cm bar spacing for a syrian, and half an inch is actually about 1.3cm. That is the only thing that would put me off I think. Personally I think you should get a bigger base size. 72cm is over 3" smaller than the recommended size and that measurement is the maximum width - the base curves in so will be smaller. I found that with my 80cm cage - after the curved base, there is only actually about 70cm floor area and I wish I had bought a 100cm cage. For me as well, you need as much floor space as possible because syrian sized things can be quite big and it is hard to fit everything in the cage unless there is good floor space size. By the time you have a 12" wheel and a house in there it could get a bit cramped for toys, etc. the Alaska cage is going for £37.90 on Zooplus at the moment, which is a good price too! 84 x 48.5 x 44.
Again it is quite high so you would need deep substrate, but plenty of height for a 12" wheel and a good sized cage at a good price. The Savic Ruffy is an excellent cage too and comes with that rat sized tube to attach which would be great fun for a hamster. Out of the two I'd go for the Ruffy cage - it has 1cm bar spacing which is fine, but the Alaska is a good buy at that price.

Re: Is this marchioro cage any good for syrians?
Its a great cage provided the bar spacing is ok. I think a bit of perspective is needed, just because it's not bang on the measurements, doesn't mean it's not a good cage in itself, in fact if an owner makes the layout nice and interesting, it would probably be a far better cage than one that fits the measurement to a tee, but is bland and boring. These hamsters, like many hundreds of others, were kept in something little bigger than a shoebox, I think this cage will seem like a palace in comparison anyway - their hardly going to get out a tape measure and go "tut tut this is a full 8cm shorter than what the guidelines say, not good enough!"

Re: Is this marchioro cage any good for syrians?
I have looked at the Alaska but because these are rescue hammies and were not planned for I don't have the budget for 2 of those. A friend sent me £28 for a cage so that's what I have to work with.I could manage £30 for each cage but not almost £38, I think I have one sorted anyway from ebay-just waiting for a message and have also found a site that has the ruffy for just a little more,so waiting on the ebay reply to see if I need to get one or 2 cages from elsewhere. I certainly don't have enough space for 100cm cages-my other 2 syrians do have 80cm cages and only the younger one actually uses the space.

I say, go for it! It is okay to not be on the mark in size, especially as this is a rescue situation with a ham in a bad setup. The hams will think they are in heaven.
