How to connect cages with tubes
As you may have already seen from my cages in the 'show your cage' thread I have connected cages up a few times now by making my own hole.

It creates so many possibilities and means that no cage gets wasted. I use These Connector Plates which are compatible with both Savic and Ferplast tubes and come with a stopper so you can still use your cage without tubes attached if you need to. ECF also sell the Ferplast tubes and if you type 'FANCYRATS' into the coupon box at the end of your transaction you get 10% off your order! I prefer Ferplast tubes myself as the bends aren't as steep though occasionally combinations have only worked by incorporating the Savic tubes. Tinkerbell was a large hamster but had no problem with any of the tubes at all. All my hamsters / mice / rats enjoy going up and down and you can use cages up that are too small for any real purpose without ruining them as you would by cutting holes in the base etc. It also makes cleaning very easy as you can put the hamster / mouse in one cage by blocking it off with the plug whilst you clean the other one. For tanks it's really handy to have a cage on top that you can put food and water in etc even if it's a small cage. The main points to remember are to: - always decide on the tube combination you will need *before* you snip holes in the bars! Then you will get the positioning of the hole right. - cut the hole smaller than you think you'll need it - you can always snip more off bars if you need to but you can't put bits of bar back on if you've cut them too short! - cage bars are actually quite easy to snip and you can always use garden wire to make the connector plate stay in place more securely after you've attached it. I can post pics of other tubifications I've done if people would like to see them. :) |

I'd certainly like to see them!

Re: How to connect cages with tubes
Have been out all this weekend so sorry for the delay! Here's other cages I've joined (though not all are hamster cages) :
Rody Cavia joined to a Ferplast Duna Fun (I did this using the tubes on the Duna which already have 'holes' so you can join them to other cages - I just used a piece of mesh on the Rody then and cut an access hole for the tube to go through - the mesh I wired on to the Duna using garden wire) : http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...t/P1000680.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...t/P1000675.jpg Zoozone 2 plus Ferplast Duna Fun (same method to join them as above) : When Herbert had it: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...t/P1000387.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...t/P1000389.jpg When Tinkerbell had it: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...l/P1000949.jpg Herbert's current tank plus Ferplast Duna Fun (again, joined using same method as above): http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...t/P1010937.jpg Close up of tube combination: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...t/P1010938.jpg Gabber Rex plus Mickey Max mouse cage: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...s/P1030146.jpg Close up of tubes showing connector plates on Rex and Mickey cage: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...s/P1030144.jpg Savic Cambridge plus Savic Hamster Heaven - joined using a cut out hole and connector plate on the Cambridge. The HH already has tube plates on the top so it's easy to use: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...e/P1010958.jpg Savic Cambridge attached to the tank that Herbert now has - connector plate used on the Cambridge and the tubes went through a hole in the mesh on the tank lid. This set-up was initially used for Spiny Mice: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...e/P1010053.jpg Close up of tubes joining them: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...P1000110-1.jpg Savic Freddy 2 cage joined to a Savic Cambridge (Both of my now Spiny Mice have one of these set-ups each - they had to be separated so are now lone meeces!): Oscar's: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...e/P1030181.jpg Tubeys! http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...e/P1030179.jpg Ned's: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...e/P1030190.jpg I *think* that's just about all of the tube connections I've done other than my rat cage but that's never really going to be relevant to a hamster forum! :P Not all of the above combinations are currently in use of course but it just shows what you can do! |

Re: How to connect cages with tubes
They should be called ferplast tube stoppers or connectors. Different sites give them different names :)
