I use Carefresh. It is soft and Toby likes to burrow in it and it is great for odour. You do not need to change it as often.

I found a nice article about bedding here.

I think no matter what the package promises, wood chips will have dust. Litter does look pretty but it is no good for burrowing.

I use megazorb and easybed. Pine is nasty stuff - when i used to use it i found allot of my pets became allergic (thats the reason why i switched)

Cat litter can be a little uncomfortable and hard on a hamsters feet :(

But Megazorb would be fine, its cheap, lower in dust (lower than carefresh) and keeps the cage smelly nice :D

or you could just buy mixed paper bedding like this

This shredded paper would go well with Megazorb and hamsters would use it to sleep in

They sell special wood litter but I think that it's just as bad as sawdust, so im a bit unsure on that

I think it is very much down to personal taste and what suits some people and hammies wont suit others. We currently use wood shavings for short haired hams with the Wilkos chipped paper bedding. Long hairs are on Aubiose which is like finely chipped hemp straw. It does not tangle in their fur. We have in the past tried Megazorb but could not stand the smell. Some batches smell bad a bit like sick! Carefresh is quite good but we are not fond of the grey colour. Cat litter feels rather hard and the glue smell to make the pellets is not to our liking. Aubiose and Megazorb are both horse beddings and can be hard to store as they come in large bales however they are economical if you have a lot of hammies. You could try experimenting and see what you hammies like.

I use Megazorb, mainly because it's extremely good value and I think it's a better option than shavings, which as a rat owner I have reservations about. The only bad thing is it tends to get everywhere, which is less of a problem with tanks but a total pain if you have a cage with a shallow base. I've used Ecopetbed in the past but it doesn't really allow burrowing and the bales are massive so difficult to store.

I don't like shavings at all for various reasons and I found (personally) that Aubiose made me wheeze so I went back to my perennial favourite - cardboard bedding! I currently use Finacard but will be ordering Ecopetbed next time I think as I've found somewhere that does it with cheaper delivery. :)

Tesco value loo' roll is what I give them for making nests!

i use either aubiose or megazorb, i mainly use megazorb though as we tend to have more to hand since we stopped stocking aubiose due to the size :( its a very good bedding though, i find that some batches of megazorb can have a distinct smell to them but you do get used to it, i also have to use wood bassed cat litter for one of my chinese boys due to a prolapsed penis, if kept on any thing else it tends to get stuck to it  and cause him discomfort
i used to use wood shavings years ago and found them ok, i have also used shavings mixed with megazorb which combatted megazorbs own distinct smell, i wouldnt use shavings again by choice unless i was forced to, not when theres so many better products out there.

also sawdust should NEVER be used as it is much to fine nd well dusty and can cause respitory problems.

Aaah, im a little worried now. I ALWAYS used sawdust (apart from my first hamster, I used hay which I later found wasnt good for hamsters) are we talking about the sawdust used in shops, becuase I would have imagined that they were safe :?

I use PAH wood shavings at the moment for cage litter - I had to get a new bail last week and I tend to use the smallest bails which usually last me about 4 weeks as its only a small cage...I have thought about carefresh and I may swap to it once the new bail runs down!

Bedding wise Pikachu gets the blue/white warm bedding from Wilko's supplemented with sheets of kitchen roll
