Hammy not using house
Hello everyone!
My Syrian will not use her house/bed at all. I have tried two houses and two different types of bedding, still getting the same result.
She will just sleep in the corner of the cage and I end up putting bedding around her, which she then snuggles with and sleeps.
Has anyone else had this or have any ideas? thank you

Re: Hammy not using house
Yup, plenty of hams do the same. I'd not worry about it

Re: Hammy not using house
Hi Dave. My Nutmeg wouldn't use her house for the longest time. I finally took it out and just put a bendy bridge in there. It took a while but Nutmeg now loves her bendy bridge for her nest. Just because humans think of "houses" as a place to sleep doesn't mean hamsters will agree with us . Even hamsters who use a house will often decide to change to an open air nest from time to time. My Ted E. Bear loves his bedroom and always uses it, while Almond changes from his bendy bridge to his coconut to the knuff house and then 3 different open nest spots. The mind of a hamster is a funny thing. ;-D Don't worry about it. Just give your hammy the choices.

Re: Hammy not using house
As everyone has said, there is no reason to worry. My Star seems to prefer to sleep in the back corner behind her wheel. She stayed in her house for two days, then moved in the corner to stay. I'm assuming its because of the hot weather, and in winter she will move back into the more cozy house. Your hamster might be doing the same, or she may just prefer sleeping in the corner. There is nothing to worry about. Just keep one or two houses in her cage so she has the option if it ever crosses her mind.

Re: Hammy not using house
Mine go from nesting under things, to sleeping in the open, to sleeping in their houses. Lol. Both now nest under ikea Knuffs. Totally normal . When my Syrian was a baby, she slept out in the open..

Re: Hammy not using house
Both are sleeping in the open a lot this summer, here. Curious to see what they do in the middle of the winter.
You might try putting a big sign on the house saying : Bathroom, Do Not Sleep Here.....
