Lightbulb Detolf splitting. help plox!

Hey all.

I have two dwarf hamsters and a Syrian which was bought today, pics coming soon!

The cage the new Syrian is in is big enough, however when I open the door she trys to get out and will wait at the door untill I open it.

I have a detolf cage from Ikea which is 43x163cm.
I've been told by people to split the two dwarfs if they fight by putting a glass shelf in between them.

What I was thinking of doing was splitting the cage, keeping the two dwarfs on one side. Giving them 43x81.cm of space and keeping the new Syrian on the other side. They'll both have the same amount of space (43x81.cm)

They'll be no way that the hamsters will be able to get in each others cages, but I am worried about keeping them in the same detolf.

Has anyone done this before?

thanks!

I've never heard of doing this, but I'd guess that if you can be absolutely sure there is no way the Syrian can get into the other part, I don't see why not. They already know the others exist. They can smell each other if the are in the same room. I've see people stack cages and also have them side by side. The only thing is, be sure you have a place for the dwarfies if the should fall out at a later date. That can happen even after they have been together a year or more...usually when one becomes ill...that makes them vulnerable as the well hammy will see the ill hammy as weak. See what others say about it Dave.

Hi Dave,
I've not heard of anyone doing that.. You can try it. see how your hams are with that set up. I'm only speculating, but it may cause stress on the hamsters, being close like that, due to they would be able to hear, and smells would be, I'd imagine, stronger.. (?), expecially if you have females that go into heat. Would the divider be clear or made from a sight blocked material? Take into consideration, the Detolf, is not very wide, at 16". So, basically to spit it up, with the Syrian housed in one side, would be space for a wheel, house and a few toys.

Are you going to put your robo in with your WW dwarf?

I'm going to keep everything how it is for now as my Syrian is calming down now.
I was just worried about her being stressed.

The robos will stay together using the whole detolf.
