the hamsters.... the little girls.... they are chewing through their cages at a alarming rate I have bought three this year! I am sick of it any plastic boom gone, I am now utterly broke and frustrated, is there anything that a the two chewers can not bite through?

Re: help please
Tanks are chew-proof (except the silicone which is harmless). A 40 gallon breeder is ideal, a 20 gallon long would be the minimum size recommended.

Re: help please
Yes, glass I'd just get tanks for them if they're that bad - we converted a detolf for our really chewy syrian (we meshed the wooden ends to prevent chewing too) and it contains her nicely

Re: help please
Get. A. Glass. Tank. XD Margo's 40 gallon terrarium is probably the single best investment I've ever made. Completely chew proof (she nibbled at the silicone seals the first week or two, but hasn't since; and if yours does go to town on the seals you can use a razor blade to scrape it away) and if you can find one with a locking lid, it's practically escape proof too! (I only say 'practically' escape proof, because the moment you label anything escape proof, a hamster will find a way out xD it's like a curse or something)

Re: help please
Check thrift stores and other pre-owned outlets - do you have craigslist in wales? :0 you can regularly find 20g or larger tanks for pocket change.
Here in the US, at least, it's actually cheaper per square inch to buy a tank, if you know where to get it (our market for hamster cages over here is terrible)

Re: help please
Unfortunately it sounds like a glass tank each is the only way to keep them contained. I know they're not always cheap but if you look for long enough you may find an affordable one. People also sometimes sell detolfs secondhand, yes when converting them to hamster cages you will still need a lid but since they're only £40 new they don't often seem to go for too much secondhand

Re: help please
You should get a glass tank.
Although the price can be a little scary at first, it will be saving you money in the long run when you won't have to keep replacing their cages.
Do they have lots of toys in their cages that they can chew on? That might help if they can chew the toys instead of the cages.

Re: help please
Just a thought ,but if glass tanks are too pricey/heavy, what about one of these:
Lazy Bones Rodent Cage - CagesWorld
All totally metal including the base so their completely chew proof. There's a mesh panel on the floor that just lifts out, and you could cover the mesh shelf with cheap lino tiles or coated wood, or even remove them completely. Their meant to be a chinchilla cage but way too small for that, but would be great for a chewing hamster (the mesh is small enough to contain a Syrian), and they also make a two tier version for more space. The small door is a bit of a pain unless you alter it to open outwards, but the access from the top is great as the whole top lifts up. They also plastikote into nice colours easily if you don't like the white or black .
