Re: Hamster igloos vs just bedding
The opening probably isn't that big either. I'd rather make one. Not to mention it says toad house on it. lol But the size was decent. About the same size as an igloo, but it is tapered.

Re: Hamster igloos vs just bedding
I make crawl throughs and homes out of sunflower / clover tubs.
Here are a couple in the playpen. The sunflower one has just 2 holes in the lid and filled with shredded paper and some sunflower seeds scattered in the bottom. My hamsters love diving in and rummaging around for their fave treats. The brown one is a clover tub with holes cut in both ends. I put wood shavings in it but they kick them out of the holes. When they are tired, they will sleep in them too until I put them back in their cages.

I like the idea of an upside down tub with no bottom and a hole drilled like you did, for a house! I could do that with a big butter tub.

Re: Hamster igloos vs just bedding
Thanks for the feedback. I've cleaned the whole cage out today and there was still poop in her new box bed. So I removed it and put it in the base of her old igloo to use as a litter tray (hopefully she will use it!)
She seemed happy enough in her new box though, especially with the weather being warm (warm for England I mean) I'm sure she's appreciating the less stuffy bed!

BrainGirl, you're far too big to be sitting in a ceramic pot of any kind, k? glazed or not. This is meant for the HAMMIES?

Re: Hamster igloos vs just bedding
My hamsters' favourite is this:
They can climb it and store things on top, and it fits in the corner of a fish tank.

LOLOL guess I didn't check my grammar I don't know if it would be the same experience but I did once stay in a straw bale house (stacked straw bales coated in clay) and it was lovely! If I had a clay pot big enough I would totally live in it
