Exclamation Ikea Detolf :)

I am definitely planning on getting an Ikea Detolf cage for my Syrian, Spice, but I was wondering if anyone else had one and if they could answer my question for me. I have a Trixie Wheel which is 11" and I was wondering if it would be able to fit comfortably in the cage with a mesh lid or would it be too big? If it is too big then I am going to be buying a new one which is 8".

Thank you

The detolf is 43cm (16.9 inch) wide (or tall if it is laid on it's side as a cage) (but I'm assuming this is an external measurement), with the wheel and stand being 30cm (according to amazon) you should have plenty of space.

I would not suggest have an 8" wheel for a typical syrian. Unless yours is very very small it would need bigger.

I didn't realise just how wide the detolf unit is. We have some other IKEA glass units and they are much narrower.

Hi every one I am new on here, but I saw that you were talking about detolfs and I just wanted to say that I got my short haired male syrian hamster Dusty a detolf yesterday. with two kallax shelves to go underneath. Dusty absolutely loves it and it looks great too!

Thumbs up Re: Ikea Detolf :)

RedSky: I'm hoping that it will fit for definite, would make it a lot easier Trixie wheels are really big so their 8" would be fine for majority of Syrians but it would be better if I could stay with my 11".

kyrilliondaemon: Thank you! It's good to find out from someone who actually has one rather looking at the measurements and worrying hah!

dusty01: Welcome! Aww, I hope my Syrian, Spice, likes it just as much. Will hopefully be getting it at the end of next week Can't wait to move him

I put the sawdust from his cage as the top layer of sawdust in the tank so that he knew that it was his own territory, and I placed all of the toys that were in his old cage in to the tank just for the next week or two. Then I can make it In to a more natural habitat. He only has sand in a lunch box this week because he has never had a sand bath before and he has been learning how to use it, so Mabey next week I will give him a big sand bath because he loves it so much. I also put in a tiny bowl of water because although water is not too healthy for a hamsters fur, you would be surprised how many hamsters actually like to splash there paws in it. I will post more pics when I make it In to a more natural environment. Hope this helps!!
