There was some 'click and stick' velcro-like stuff for sale in a local hardware shop that was meant to be used for hanging paintings. I bought some and it works wonders! Recommend 100000%
No pictures atm will post some later, sorry.
I think it's also called hook n loop tape

I bought a 1m roll off of Amazon for about £4 and used it to attack Willow's bottle on the outside of her Maxi Duna with te spout poking brought the hole

As a cheap alternative you could use a toilet paper tube (or anything else like it). You poke a hole in the place where you want the spout to stick out and use non toxic glue and some more sturdy cardboard to make a base to help it stand. Maybe put something inside the tube to weigh it down so the hamster can't knock it down easily or extend the base. It is better to use a sturdier tube like a cling wrap or tin foil tube as they aren't as easily destructed unless you have a hamster who doesn't really chew the tubes anyway.

Sorry it's so long

Ares's bottle has that little notch-thing for the cage- I just cut a slit in the bin and stuck the clasp through there, it's quite a wide bottle so he can't even get to the slit. Hera's bottle uses wire, so I used the wire-hole idea.

Idea sold...thank you so much! Will use your idea with great appreciation...thanks again!

I usually use these water bottles with a little loop at the top for hanging in tanks and bin cages. If the bins too tall then I use the wheel-stand method or use a water bowl instead.

That’s also a good idea...will look for a water bottle that has a hole at the top so I can hang it using the hook.

I've found my solution in the B&Q plumbing section. Pipe clips. I cut the bracket parts off, drilled a hole through the centre and bin cage then bolted them in place. Tested and approved by Percy dwarf.
