Stress-free cage transfer
So, I decided I want to maybe move Cheeto into a bigger, 113 litre bin cage I have plans of making. I don't know if I should, and if so how should I go about it. Should I try to connect them? (I don't really want to) or should I save the bin for another hammy? I think Cheeto is a little cramped in her current residence... I'll try to get a pic of it. Thanks!

I know both of those cages and yes, you should definitely move Cheeto if you can!

Re: Stress-free cage transfer
Out of curiosity, where did you find a 113L bin? I'd been looking for something suitable but couldn't find anything. I thought it was because I'm on an island but it was still disappointing. In the end I had to mesh guinea pig cages.

Well, I went to Canadian tire, where they had them in the flyer, but I found a better one, since that one was more tall than long/wide, with 104L, but twice the floor space. So, Canadian tire.

Re: Stress-free cage transfer
But what I'm asking is basically should I make the change gradual or ASAP?

Re: Stress-free cage transfer
I would save a bit of the used bedding (the cleaner bits) to add to the new cage but otherwise I wouldn't worry about making a sudden change of space. I would just fill the cage with new bedding and then sprinkle the old stuff around so it smells ok.
Yeah, I keep looking around CanTire because they seem to have the best selection of bins but I've never yet found anything suitable at the ones on the island. I see there's one called "Bella" in the latest flyer (it's probably the 113L you mentioned) but I haven't seen it in person yet. The best floor space is in the Sterilite ClearView line but I've only found it at London Drugs and it's not tall enough to allow for a large wheel I had the brilliant idea to buy 2 (or 1 and an underbed box in the same line because the rims are identical in size) and bolting them together

Re: Stress-free cage transfer
As long as you keep the same bedding in his house or nesting area the same for a while and keep all his toys the same and he'll be fine. Just then leave him to it for a couple of days to familiarise himself. We moved Malcolm into a big new home and just tried our best to keep as much bedding as possible so that all he could smell was himself. Seemed to work as he went straight to bed etc. Hope this helps!
