Re: hamster ball
You can get a BRAND NEW one on Ebay for 10 bucks, free shipping OR you could go to the store (like Petco or Petsmart) and they have them for like 6 dollars without the stand, unfortunately. All of the balls are same size I believe, I've only seen one size though!
Hope this helps!

Re: hamster ball
Size depends on your hamster breed. For Syrian hamster the bigger is the better. If you are in the UK I've got mine from pets at home and it was large size cost £8 few months ago. I must admit it is one if the best quality I found compared to the others. only thing is they come in 2 different colours I'd recommend it though as it seems to me one of the favourite items of my Syrian girl.

Re: hamster ball
There is one in asda (If you're from the UK) for about £3 which I have used for a small syrian or perfect for a dwarf? You don't want to get a fancy one yet until you know your hamster likes hamster balls

Hhaah, Icklemunch were commenting on all the same posts at the same time hehe! Yeah, my chinese hates them ^.^ Personally I wouldn't use them all the time, I prefer free range or playpen like you said Or the bathtub with no water in it obviously

Re: hamster ball
I got mine for £3.79 in the shop I work in. Nice sturdy one too.
I do have an opinion on size though. With wheels, generally you should go with 'bigger is better'. But as balls shouldn't really be used for more than 15 mins at a time, I don't think this really applies. Some people buy rat sized balls for their syrians, but most of this size have bigger ventilation gaps to suit a bigger animal, and these are quite dangerous. I got a free rat sized running ball from a shop rep the other week; I took one look at the ventilation and have never used it. The gaps are so wide that my Finley could easily put his foot through, and he could give himself quite the injury.
Just a warning.

Re: hamster ball
I have rat size balls for all my 4. They hate the normal hamster size.
