Default New hamstery shed ordered!*Calling BV Mark*

Hi everyone, I'm back from France (desperately trying to catch up with the forum as well as everything else I didn't do while I was away!) and just had to share this with you as I'm dizzy with excitement and can't get anyone that actually knows me here to share my excitement - I've ordered my new hamstery shed and it''s coming a week on Friday!!!

I went for this one in the end - the one in the piccy is a smaller version, mine is 8ft by 6ft - and I've gone for the stable door version as I liked the idea of that after hearing about BVH's ....I'm going to insulate it and get some insect screens for the windows and doors and then get an electric supply fitted for heating etc later in the summer (I'll run fans off an extension cable when it's hot until then). The best thing of all is that it's almost £100 cheaper than the price on the site - because I'm local! Having it built is only thirty quid!

I'm dithering about getting the 10ft by 8ft version now as it's so cheap - but that would be a bit of a squeeze in the area I'm planning to put it. What do those of you with 8ftx6ft sheds think about the size of them (I can change my mind on size if I do it tomorrow)?

I would go bigger you don't need to fill it with hamsters but you can buy things in bulk and have lots of room to hold extra cages if a litter is slow to find new homes etc, or if you start taking in rescues etc or just to hold toys and stuff to put in your hamster run - a sandpit is a great play area we have found for hamsters my hamsters are very much treated as pets though even if they live in a shed (albiet a stone one attached to the house)

That is a good point - mine are very much pets as well and, though the kitchen door is just a few feet from where the shed door will be and they'll be able to run round the kitchen (in balls and free-running as well) I love the idea of a sandpit as well as galvanised bins for feed and megazorb/finacard plus space for empty cages.

If anyone has pictures of their sheds I'd love to see any 10ft by 8ft or 8ft by 6ft sheds in use as hamsteries - I'm finding it very hard to picture what mine will look like and what I'll be able to fit in it. I'm going to measure my space again in the morning and make the final decision then as I really need to tell them if I do decide to go bigger - it wasn't really an option before but it is now the sheds are cheaper than I thought. I've had a good look at my neighbours 8' by 6' and it seems pretty roomy really.

Just bare in mind that whatever size you get you will not be able to stop getting more hamsters until you fill it!!
Mine is 10 x 8 .... perhaps I should have got a smaller one??

Also once you have shelving round the edge the bit in the middle looks much smaller.

Oooo exciting. A hamster shed. I'd go bigger too then you can take in holiday hammies to earn a bit of hamster pocket money too I think we will convert our playroom into a hamstery now that Pophammy is 'big'!!! Maybe it will help us sleep as well as since Lola came Napoleon has gone stir crazy for lady hamsters

Thanks guys - I've just realised there's a 9ft x 6ft option - I could go for that, I'll have a measure up in the morning!

I must try and curb my excitement, my work colleagues think I'm nuts and a saddo
