My Syrian Hamster cage! (A meshed Ferplast 140) - The Guinea Pig Forum) here is a link to photos of one of them
That cage looks great! I'm curious about the rope though, will a hamster actually be able to use that? I know that rats and mice can grip but hams seem to be adapted more to flat surfaces

I know I'd promised an update on my cage conversion before Monday, but there was a hitch. The "giant" shelf unit I purchased that I was certain would fit the cages turned out to be too small! So I've spent the day building new shelves. They look good if I do say so myself

Done! I like it, I hope Peach does too

I left her alone to settle after making sure she knew where the food and water were located. Now to see if the feed store has got 1/4" mesh back in stock so I can get to work on Timmy's cage!

I put a couple of inches of recycled paper pellets in for a bottom layer starting with the relatively clean pellets I took out of her old cage to add some of her own scent. Took about 4 times as much as her old cage just to cover the bottom! Then I put a couple of inches of fluffy Boxo on top of that. I didn't spread it around too much, just left it in compressed chunks to give her something to do

1) The finished cage, pre-hamster.

2) Finished cage, with hamster (behind water bottle) to give an idea of scale.

3) Peach headed straight for her familiar wheel and sat there sniffing her surroundings...

4) Then groomed herself!

Sorry for all the edits, I kept coming up with monster pictures :/

Not all that long in total work time, most of my time was spent in cursing the wire mesh

I suppose on thinking about it that I could have finished it in a day. I'm a bit of a perfectionist though and I get frustrated when things don't look "just so". Then there are the injuries when working with mesh which means I need to take breaks. Probably take me a week next time

Poor Peach I think she wore herself out exploring last night! I looked in on her and she'd fallen asleep on top of her substrate, right out in the open. I was worried and wanted to make sure she was ok so I woke her up. She was fine of course so I gave her a treat and a scritch and left her to go back to bed

Now to get more toys to fill up the empty spaces! I placed her old stuff as close as possible to the way it was in the old cage. Now that she's used to it in new surroundings I'd like to add new stuff!
