white stains on cage base

this latest cage ive bought has white stains in the base how do you remove them any idea appreciated

White (or to be honest, I've found any colour/sort will work) vinegar, left to soak in the base of the cage will usually dissolve it.

If you don't like the smell of vinegar (I find it does tend to fill the house!), lemon juice works well too.

We usually try and scrap them out with a sortof pointed edge knife and some spray that usually get rids of it.

yes, soak in lemon juice for half an hour

We use an old chisel to scrape it off. It works well You can also use a denture cleaning tablet which will dissolve it too.

Does anyone know if limescale removing spray would harm hammies? I used it on my bunnies dog basket and it was fine and worked a treat but not sure if it would be too harsh for hams?

I have never found that anything works as well as white vinegar. However I do also save any vinegar that is left in pickled onion jars and that does a prety good job. Leave it to soak for about 10 minutes and it will dissolve the white deposits.

I think I would worry about any chemicals that it may contain. Hammies do a lot more chewing than bunnies so may ingest any residue.

Good tip - I would never have thought of doing that. REcycling at its best!
