Long-haired syrians and wheels?
On the Southern Hamster Club website, I saw that it says not to give long-haired syrians wheels, as it can cause injuries. Is this right? And is it the same for both males and female long-haired, as I know the females fur isn't that long?
I don't have one, but was thinking of getting one in the future.

Re: Long-haired syrians and wheels?
I have a very long haired male and he adores his wheel. The only think i woulld suggest is buy a big one. My jeffro has the senior wodent wheel. That way there is no risk of their fur get caught in the spindle. A karlie wooden wheel are good as no spindles etc for their fur to get tangled.

Re: Long-haired syrians and wheels?
yes its right long haired syrians can get in to harms way with hair getting tangled up. I dont give my long haired a wheel, he gets plenty of tubes instead.

Long Haired Hams are fine with wheels that don't have a spindle. I would hate to have a hammie without a wheel

Re: Long-haired syrians and wheels?
We want to get a LH male one day and he'll definetly have a wheel. It might be difficult to find a good wheel for him but I'd hate having a healthy ham without a wheel.

The Karlie Wonderland Wheels are good. Silent and have no spindle

Re: Long-haired syrians and wheels?
I'm thinking either that or a flying saucer Or both since we routinely stick two wheels in a cage anyway
Not that I'll be getting my eventual LH male for ages yet lol

I put the karlie wooden wheel in with mine yesterday and he loves it. Although his fur is still fluffy as he's only a baby

Re: Long-haired syrians and wheels?
I had to go and double check the SHC website because I couldn't believe it said that, and honestly I think it is stupid advice LHs are fine as long as the wheel has no spindle, like the Karlie wheels or a flying saucer. Also I think females are fine with all kinds of wheels, it's just the long skirts of the males that are potentially an issue.
