Post Mission: Bin cage

Ok, so I'm going ahead with the bin cage plan. Woo!

The best box I've found so far is the Really Useful Box (64L)

Only trouble is dims, you seem to lose a lot from outside to inside - is this still ok? It's a tad smaller than typical dwarf size recommendations The next one up (width wise) is huge, but I do like how smooth the inside of these bins are (nothing to chew) and the snapping handles to secure the lid are great. The boxes themselves feel VERY sturdy.

External dimensions: 710 x 440 x 310
Internal dimensions: 605 x 370 x 280

I'll be getting either a Russian or a Robo, so is this big enough for them?

(Also if it is, Staples are doing 2 for £20 rather than £17 each so if anyone wants to go halves with me.... :P )

I've been researching substrate for a while now and think Fitch is the way to go. There seem to be a couple of reasonably local places near to me that sell it so I'll check them out. Failing that delivery isn't killer for how much you are getting.

As for wheels, what are your recommendations? I know everyone has their own preferences but I’d like to hear them all so I can make decision (that’s what I did with substrate ) Any issues with the wheel sticking in bins due to deep substrate? Or should I just go for a flying saucer straight away?

Once I’ve decided on a suitable bin (and size) I’ll pop down to B&Q and sort some mesh and fixings. Really looking forward to modding the bin

Thanks in advance for your help.

The range sells both 62L and 110L boxes, Wilkinsons also sell a 62L bin. They're both suitable for dwarfs, the 110L just means you can put more substrate. They're both nearly 80cmx40cm, a space likes that is nice for a dwarf especially. Wheels won't be an issue, just stack the substrate a lot hire at the opposite end of the cage, this way you can use any wheel you like.

Fitch is a very good bedding and you can't really go wrong with it. I use it for all my pets and the rescue hamsters.

Personally I'd go for the 84 litre one, as it's got the same floorspace but is taller so you can put in a really deep layer of substrate As far as size goes, it's bigger than the mini duna, so fine for a single dwarf
