Default Why all hams should have deep substrate!

Captain Joey is really settling in to his new home and loving being able to make his own tunnel system and places to sleep. Yesterday he decided to make a tunnel right along the front of the tank which meant we could see in!

Here's a video Marc took of Joey in his burrow this afternoon. Excuse the music, think he was playing an Xbox game or something!

It's so nice to be able to give him the opportunity to do natural hamstery things

Wow that is some impressive tunneling! All my hams have loved to tunnel once they realized they can dig downward several inches. Being able to see their work is one of my favorite part of using tanks. Sometimes the first thing my OH and I do when we wake up is to admire the tunnel expansions from previous night since the tanks are right next to our bed.

I'm like a proud mum watching him!! Definitely glad we got the tank.

That's Carefresh bedding. I had no idea it would be as easy to make tunnels from as it is. My Syrian certainly didn't make burrows like that with it, she much prefered hemp.

The tank is the 30" Clearseal tank from Pets at Home. It was £40. I like it a lot but after seeing how he uses all this space I'm really tempted to get something bigger!! The next sizes up of the Clearseal tanks are £55 and £70 though which seems a lot. I have seen the ikea Detolf cabinets turned in to tanks though and they are only £40 and MASSIVE... so I think that may be his next option!
