Would this be a suitable "Cage" ?
I have a Perfecto Small Animal Habitat - 36" x 12" x 15" (91cm x 30cm x38cm) that i currently use for my gerbils but i've got a friend that's offered me the exact same one. Before i get it off her i was wondering if they are suitable for hamsters?
I'm not sure on which type of hamster I'd like yet but I'm drawn towards having 1 Syrian.
This is 2 photos of the same style and size tank:
I've never own a hamster before though i've been planning to for just over a year but the right time hasn't come yet.
Any advice on making this hamster friendly would be great

Yes, I would say that was just about a suitable cage for a Syrian... a little on the smaller side but with the levels I think it would be okay

it is on the smaller side of suitable, but i think it would be okay for a syrian, if you were to use a decent layer of substrate, and an upright decent sized wheel (so it didn't take up too much floor space like the saucers do)

Bear lived in a 3ft Perfecto. I had one of the 29cm Trixie wheels right at the front - or you could remove a shelf to create more wheel room at one side.

Re: Would this be a suitable "Cage" ?
I personally wouldn't use it for a Syrian, mainly because Syrian accessories need to be quite large and after putting in an 11" wheel, a good sized house and some toys, it'd be a bit cramped
On an unrelated note, have you thought about putting more shavings in for your gerbils? I hear they love to burrow and dig

Re: Would this be a suitable "Cage" ?
I agree, i think this would be a little small for a Syrian, i had Sookie (dwarf hammy) in one and she loved it but i had to make little stairs to help her get up the levels and then i was worried she would fall off the top and hurt her self so in the end i took her out of it and gave it to my friends for her Gerbils

Re: Would this be a suitable "Cage" ?
I think it would be alright for a starter cage, but my syrian has grown massivly since I first got her so I would get a bigger one at around 6 months. My syrian hamster is in an 80cm wide, 55cm deep and 36cm high cage and its perfect for a grown syrian to live in, but she started in a mini duna which I now have a tiny robo in so don't think a smaller cage will be too small for a young syrian because mine started off very small
Hope I helped

Re: Would this be a suitable "Cage" ?
Thanks to everyone for replying it has been very helpful. I'm feeling very uncertain about if a hamster suitable for my small flat and very surprised now after hearing this would be on smaller side.
How much space does an adult Syrian need? I've never actually seen a hamster cage the same size or larger than what i have haha
I would like to thank you all again though as this has been useful to me
(Kissa - don't worry ^^ my gerbs have 7 inches of woodshavings + hay. but these were taking when they first got moved into the new tank so i was watching for changes in behaviour and the other day when i didn't realise how little shavings i had to spilt between my 2 tanks hehe )

Re: Would this be a suitable "Cage" ?
Next time you are near a Pets at Home, pop in and have a look at the Ferplast Mary rat cage. That's the size most here would recommend for a Syrian
