Default Top Tip for Squeaky Wheels

I don't have a problem but I have a trick that I thought people should know about

My hamsters wheel used to squeak really bad at the joint at the back. Normally, squeaky joints would use oil, but I thought that sunflower oil would be a more hamster friendly solution and it worked! it really stops the squeaking so if you have a super squeaky wheel, just pour sunflower oil into the back of the wheel and then wipe as much of the oil off of the external bits as you can so your hammy can have access to as little as possible hope this helps!!

It's best applied with a cotton bud rather than pouring, you can end up with a greasy hamster if care isn't taken just to use a tiny bit.

I have used olive and almond oils, never buy sunflower but I'm sure they all do the same thing, the hamster shouldn't be able to get to the oiled areas anyway

yeah a cotton bud is actually a really good idea, for easier application but if you don't have any then pouring is okay as long as you clear up the rest of it carefully - thanks!!

I've done this too, all of our hammies' wheels are squeaky!! I usually put a little butter/vegetable oil on the spoke thing and then attatch it to the cage, then put a bit of kitchen roll wedged in between the wheel spoke and the cage to stop the rattling

I use olive oil or vaseline with a cotton bud (depending on the type of wheel) on all wheels/flying saucers before use and reapply whenever someone develops a squeak. I have also disassembled the wheel from the spoke and put the oil on using kitchen roll if I've run out of cotton buds which I found easier than trying to mop up oil!
