Default Gabber Rex Alternatives??

Right, lets assume (I don't like to get my hopes up) that the Gabber Rex is now impossible to get.........

I wanted to get one for my new little lady (not yet conceived ) and so now need to think about finding an alternative.

I currently have Alvin in a Cambridge, which I am very happy with, but as I have a feeling that in a few years I may turn to breeding, I want to try and buy cages from now that will be suitable for a mummy and babies too.

I am the least DIY minded person ever, and the last thing I want to do is start customising cages (ie adding wire to a Zoozone) as I am bound to mess it up and it hurt the hammy or something.

So...I am looking for;

A good size hamster home
Suitable for a mummy and pups (maybe oneday! )
Not needing any customisation
Not requiring a bank robbery to pay for it!

Any pearls of wisdom greatly appreciated!

Thanks Guys

what about the ferplast duna hamster?

I think this is the cheapest place to get it

I think I might try a Duna, it looks pretty good and I may stick Aero in it as she's determined to demolish her Rex via the two holes in the roof.

I thought Duna's were quite hard to find as well?

Just some possible alternatives - The Simba

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Simba-Plus-cag...QQcmdZViewItem

The Zoozone 1 - smaller than the zoozone 2 - the same size as a Gabber - may need to cover the bars with further netting to prevent escapes

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ZOOZONE-1-Indo...QQcmdZViewItem

dont know whether they help at all?

There's the Simba again - looks an interesting cage. It's big for a start - and taller by quite a bit than a Gabber - could be good for a chew addict Syrian.

Teresa do you have a picture of the cage you got this morning?

Well Ive been looking online to see if I can find it, but no luck, so here it is. As I've said, it is a Gabber Rex (it even says Gabber rather than Montagna), but instead of the shelf and all the 'gubbins' it has a 'hayrack' which is removeable and sits in the dimples on the lip of the rex, so I finally understand what they are for. I will remove this of course, but Ive put it back in just so you can see what it looks like.

the simba looks great, but seems to have a plastic roof, so i don't like that idea if there's no air

That cage looks really nice! It's made by Gabber? I didn't know they made other cages!

Ah I see now that the cage I got cheap at the local garden centre is infact a Ferplast Duna. Desi is in there at the moment as his bar chewing was terrible in the HH.

They are I think a little better than the gabber in that they are deeper so harder for the hamsters to reach the bars and they are a good size, I would say for mum and pups. I removed the shelf in mine. I think maybe for Aero it might be a better solution than the Gabber.

I have caved in and bought an Immac Fantasy for Algy today as he is in a Gabber at present but he is my most energetic hamster and likes to climb but doesn't like being in an all wire cage so I thought maybe the Immacwould give him the best of both worlds.
