Default chinchilla sand?

I seem to have read somewhere (but I cant remember where) that hamsters love this and that it is good for their coats? I've bought the sand but have no ideawhat sort of container I should use to give it to the hamsters (Roborovskis and a syrian). Could someone help please?

Thank you!!

Speaking from my own experience with Robos, I put my sand in a plastic flat food dish. As long as the dish is stable and will not tip over and is big enough for them to roll around in, I dont think it matters too much. I have to say that all of mine love the sand and its really funny watching them roll around in it, they also seem to like just sitting in it aswell. Hope this helps.

I use either a cat feeding dish (from P@H) or one of Super Pet's Critterbaths to put the sand in. I tend to use the cat feeding dish when I have a few dwarves sharing the sand and a Critterbath when there's only one dwarf. They all absolutely love sand baths!

My Syrian doesn't seem as bothered about them. I'm actually using an empty rectangular tin (from Illy coffee pods) for him - its really deep so he sits and has a dig occasionally but that's about it.

As the others have said any flattish dish is good - I use a Ferplast food dish which is a bit big for hammy food:

Mine like it in the large corner toilets you can buy. I find it cheaper to use than hamster litter and they seem to like it.

A couple of my hamsters like to roll in it after I have handled them - they obviously don't like the way I smell!

i used a small critter bath for my WW, but have recently changed it to a shallow ceramic dish, which looks like this

For my syrian Max, he uses his potty for it, which i just fill with sand

My dwarfies have it in those hamster potties, the covers on them stop them flinging the sand all over the cage!

I used a Bird Bath for Houdini (haven't tried it with Pippin yet cos i left the sand in my old room at my dad's) and he loved it.

Even enough to nap in it :P

Thats a great idea Helen. I think I will copy you there as it is nice and tall yet still stops the sand being kicked out. Houdini looks like he has made a little nest in there
