Unhappy Traveling with adult Syrian

I will be going on a long distance trip(about 8 hours or more by car), and staying two weeks. I have family that is willing to take care of my hammy, but i am paranoid something could happen to him.. someone making loud noises, taking him out and dropping him, feeding him something he shouldn't have, losing him, touching him without washing hands, squeezing him, him getting fleas somehow, or him just not being comfortable. I have had my ham roughly a month or a bit more, he was previously my friends that she rescued. I MIGHT be able to take him with me, but he is currently in a HUGE tank, that is very heavy. My idea was to get a small travel cage, stick him in it for the car ride, and pack the big tank, and unpack his tank there, but I might be a bit cramped for space. Would the stress of taking him be too much, or would leaving him in unsure hands be not a good idea? Any advice welcome, thanks, this is my first ham and he's my baby He is a male Syrian, very large, I am assuming an adult.

edit: If a travel cage will be okay, any suggestions for one?
I once put him in a large cardboard box for cleaning his cage with bedding and paper towel tubes, and he freaked out and tried to get out of it, so im not sure >.<

I'm not sure that a long trip is good for your ham, if it's unnecessary. My girls lived 4 hours away before I adopted them, and they did fine on the trip home. They mostly slept. 8 hours is a good deal longer, so if you could leave him with someone, that may be better. Find someone you trust and let them know how you handle your ham. I think he'll appreciate staying in his large home. Hopefully he wouldn't even know he's in a different person's house, if he gets to stay in his tank. But, ultimately, it's your decision. You are his parent, so you know what is best.

Either option should be ok. Plenty of people have taken their hamsters away with them, plenty more have left them at home or moved them to someone else's home, as long as they're cared for its ok.

Just two days ago a lot of us travelled to Cardiff with (some of) our hamsters for the day, the two we took slept for most of the time travelling and were perfectly happy in their travel cages. For me it was about 3 hours each way in total and the hams had hours out too. Left at 8:45am and didn't get home until 10:05pm but the hams were fine.

For a travel cage I'd either buy a carry case or make a smallish bin cage. I'd probably go for the carry case if you don't have a spare small cage to use. Just make sure you get him used to it before you travel, then give him a bit of veg for water, substrate, bedding and food. He'll be fine

yup as sam said
i packed my hams for the show at 5:10 am, and got them in their cages at 10pm, they where fine for the traveling
if you wanted to take him make sure he has nothing that can fall on him, an open nest, some food, something to chew and some cucumber, and when you get there set him up and itl be fine.
tbh, if terry was still with us, i would have to do that, its not a common thing to happen, but as he wasnt a healthy boy he was very attached to me, and stopped eating when i left, i came home to a ham of skin and bones, and fur, i fattened him back up and he was ok, i was gone 3 nights, my sis was feeding and watering the hams (with a watering can, as you do XD) and he just refused to eat a single grain.

my others dont care if im there or not to feed them, as long as they have food water and their wheels they dont care!

its up to you if you trust the people, or want to travel. he isnt a young ham, so traveling wont cause wet tail, so it shouldnt harm
